I thought they were fun and quirky, like STAR WARS with a pinch of HITCHHIKERS, but the last act just seemed lazy and ripped straight from THE AVENGERS. More disaster porn with a pseudo-9/11 vibe. Nobody's wanted to make a 9/11 movie since it happened, but man...they're channeling the hell out of it. It's like execs think the only way to scare/threaten audiences is by using extra-terrestrial versions of al Qaeda, as if the Nazi archetype got old or something. If it did, it's certainly had enough time to let this other archetype get old, so I think we should go back to it.Dan Ballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06865180000909831517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-69903048710178634622014-08-11T10:19:14.460-07:002014-08-11T10:19:14.460-07:00Johnny: I haven't seen GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY...Johnny: I haven't seen GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, but obviously it's working for a lot of people. That said, if you didn't laugh at the humor, I can't imagine there's some magical explanation that will make you say, "Oh! NOW I get it! It's hilarious!" Until they invent objectively funny humor, that's just the way it is. jbryantnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-88073012164846511082014-08-11T08:02:16.802-07:002014-08-11T08:02:16.802-07:00So, was the lady able to keep her job?So, was the lady able to keep her job?Mike Barerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14447874605833321732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-34610990357494036942014-08-11T07:50:59.089-07:002014-08-11T07:50:59.089-07:00When I worked in TV news, this was the favorite of...When I worked in TV news, this was the favorite of our morning weatherman:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7XbukdoGmM

This guy makes Ron Burgundy look like a Girl Scout and Ted Baxter look like Ryan Seacrest.Dan Ballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06865180000909831517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-11490236598881367092014-08-11T05:35:56.625-07:002014-08-11T05:35:56.625-07:00Watching TV people who can't ad-lib try to ad-...Watching TV people who can't ad-lib try to ad-lib is more painful than a root canal. It's getting great reviews, but I felt it was a bland disappointment. Was it just me? Wasn't the story dull, with no real stakes? And wasn't the 'comedy' actually not funny or clever at all?

It had a great cast, and some great ideas. It could have been wonderfully fun, exciting and irreverent, but instead it felt there'd been too many cooks in the kitchen.

I want to be wrong, and for it to have just been the mood I was in. If you liked it, then I'm definitely sure I missed something, because I'm usually kinder to the Marvel movies than you.Johnny Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13302545167970532080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-43419121687907927822014-08-10T14:45:30.725-07:002014-08-10T14:45:30.725-07:00This question is actually more for a previous post...This question is actually more for a previous post about failed pilots. On Criminal Minds, at the end of the episode when they show the production company credits, they show both CBS and ABC productions. With the show obviously aired on CBS, does this mean that it was originally developed for ABC but they passed and CBS picked it up? If so, would this go down as one of the most embarrassing of all "passes"?Joenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-31355814620629774842014-08-10T14:01:35.501-07:002014-08-10T14:01:35.501-07:00I won't mention the name, since I've never...I won't mention the name, since I've never been able to find video proof of this, but, according to a Philly urban legend, one of our well-known hometown reporters once misread the prompter for a promo and described The Andromeda Strain as being about "an orgasm from outer space."Me, not younoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-74387429258796050042014-08-10T13:33:05.687-07:002014-08-10T13:33:05.687-07:00What made this so painful is that she obviously kn...What made this so painful is that she obviously knew what she said and then dragged it out interminably.Ted G.noreply@blogger.com
