How many disc jockeys have a star on the Hollywood Walk-of-Fame? Okay, several, but Shotgun Tom is one of them. Currently on Sirius/XM’s 60’s on 6 channel he’s had a colorful career in an industry that used to be really fun and now sucks. But together we relive the good stuff.

Thanks. I can think of a lot worse songs from the 60's than the one by We Five. Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter for starters. And the Bee Gee's stuff from that time- ugh. Loved the "John Lennon exclusive" story, I hope that exists as an aircheck someplace.
Great fun!
Radio people tell the best stories. Really enjoyed this episode.
Shotgun is a good D.J. and may be a a really nice guy, but I have a big problem with him. He replaced The Real Don Steele on KRTH 101 after Steele passed away. The first time I heard Shotgun I thought to myself, this guy sounds a little TOO much like T.R.D.S. I felt at the time that KRTH hired him as some kind of clone. Maybe of I had heard S.T.K. first I might have a different opinion of him.
As it is, to me he's like the second Darrin on "Bewitched" or the second Lionel on "The Jeffersons." Close, but not as good as the original.
M.B.
P.S. Nothing personal, Tom. It's just circumstance.
Love the interview! Wasn't there another LA DJ named Machine Gun Kelly?
The radio business tends to make a cynic of most of the people who have worked in it. It's nice to hear from a guy like Shotgun who still seems to be so fun and positive.
@Mike Barer: There was DJ named Machine Gun Kelly (who goes by the name M.G. Kelly when he is doing non-radio gigs), but he and Tom are not related. In real life, they don't even have the same last name.
I think you need a more provocative question (at least once in a while) for us :)
Shotgun Tom is one of the greats; but sadly from an era gone by -- at least according to the oafs that run those conglomerates now. That dastardly PPM is the culprit, along with programmers who bow down to the way ratings are done now in the Top 50 or so markets.
They don't use their guts anymore. I ain't a card-reader type of jock. Never have been. And yet, that's what they embrace mostly outside of morning drive shows that have 8 members laughing at whatever the lead person says -- whether it's funny or not.
Good interview Ken...say hiya to Tom for me.
BE BIG! Big Jay Sorensen
Thank you, Andy Rose.
