He'd get into an argument and hang up on about every third caller or so because they didn't agree with him. Ahh, for the good old days when he was much more likeable.

If only they'd put him back in that job and take him off doing the Yanks' radio play-by-play, where there's no way to escape him for 81 games on XM (though I suppose you could make him jealous, Ken, by sucking up to Joe Torre on the post-game show. Nobody did a better job than Sterling touting his ties to Yankee players than he did, though Susan Waldman's verbal orgasm over Roger Clemens' return last year deserves its own special mention).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19336675.post-48752339286322686202008-03-01T08:39:00.000-08:002008-03-01T08:39:00.000-08:00SO I guess we Mariner fans will have to pretend yo...SO I guess we Mariner fans will have to pretend you are talking about John Mclaren instead of Joe Torre. It’s practically the law.

The P by P was just delightful, and the anecdotes truly funny and well delivered, not merely arcane. Maybe I’ve never really paid attention, but I don’t ever recall hearing the description parabola used like that. Now if you can only switch hats and describe the next hit as “arc of the story.”

Incidentally, thanks for selecting the inter-division game. Just one more rare opportunity for this Dallasite to crouch down memory lane with Pudge Rodriguez.

I guess you would know, but didn’t Cha Seung Baek also get advice from his dog – and then eat it? Is there an ethnic group we haven’t offended? “Hockey puck. In your pants and fire a rocket.” There, I said it and I’m not sorry.

And Tallulah, sorry this is slightly BT (behind topic), but if you’ll recall, Manuel Noriega was finally flushed out of his refuge in Panama’s Vatican Embassy by US troops playing Alaina‘s mom’s 1958 cover of Theresa Brewer’s Music, Music, Music from Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts – over & over & over again.
