I had taped that episode, and I refrained from taping over this longest-couch-gag-ever (as The Comic Book Guy would call it) for a week as I ran it for various friends who hadn't seen it.
It's pretty extraordinary that after something like seventeen seasons the show is still popular enough to warrant a feature film. Here in L.A., it runs three times a day, but I'll bet people will still pay to see the movie.
That's amazing when you consider that most new sitcoms are lucky to make it to a second season. I noticed that "Friends"-wannabe "The Class" seems to have disappeared from the schedule. I thought it had some good moments, unlike "King of Queens," which is finally going away after nine seasons. And don't get me started on Jim Belushi. Some smart student should write a thesis about the popularity of shows built around obnoxious, loutish husbands and their improbably hot wives.
But back to the Simpsons. How many people can name all the recurring characters? There's Bumble Bee Man, Comic Book Guy, Rod and Todd, Kang and Kodos, Professor Frinke, Snake...
"The Class" finished it's season, having run all it's episodes. Whether it will return or not remains to be decided, but it doesn't look promising. I was sort of mildly enjoying it, but if it's gone forever, it won't keep me awake nights, crying to God, "WHY????"

ReplyDeleteProof of no Intelligent design.
Missed that one. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI thought this one was great too.
Great stuff. The score was particularly good.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for every Sunday to see what else happens on that couch (when there isn't a rerun!)

*All* the recurring characters? That's one tall order, Ian!
