Speaking of the blog, the daily posts will continue. I never stand down from my comedy watch. The only interruption: no AMERICAN IDOL recap this week because I will be heading to Florida for spring training.
God, I hope Sandy Koufax has a good year.
For those interested, here's what I sound like doing play-by-play. It's from a game I did last season for the Mariners.
Congratulations, Ken.
ReplyDeleteHave fun. Wear Dodger Blue, and keep us entertained and informed
on Dodger Talk. It's sure to be a winning season!
And thanks for treating Dan O'Day's
PD Grad School Repeat Offenders to two hours of personal stories, anecdotes, and industry wisdom two weeks ago.
It was great to meet and learn more about from one who's excelled in so many realms of the entertainment world.
Best regards,

And KHJ is an affiliate? WOW.
ReplyDeleteKen, say hello to Sandy. Jewish and over 70? He’s gotta be living in Florida. It’s practically the law.
ReplyDeleteThe P by P was just delightful, and the anecdotes truly funny and well delivered, not merely arcane. Maybe I’ve never really paid attention, but I don’t ever recall hearing the description parabola used like that. Now if you can only switch hats and describe the next hit as “arc of the story.”
Incidentally, thanks for selecting the inter-division game. Just one more rare opportunity for this Dallasite to crouch down memory lane with Pudge Rodriguez.
I guess you would know, but didn’t Cha Seung Baek also get advice from his dog – and then eat it? Is there an ethnic group we haven’t offended? “Hockey puck. In your pants and fire a rocket.” There, I said it and I’m not sorry.
And Tallulah, sorry this is slightly BT (behind topic), but if you’ll recall, Manuel Noriega was finally flushed out of his refuge in Panama’s Vatican Embassy by US troops playing Alaina‘s mom’s 1958 cover of Theresa Brewer’s Music, Music, Music from Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts – over & over & over again. Look it up. What goes around….
SO I guess we Mariner fans will have to pretend you are talking about John Mclaren instead of Joe Torre. Any chance you'll still get to Cooperstown for Neihaus?
ReplyDeleteI remember back in the early 1970s when John Sterling hosted the Yankees' post-game talk show on WMCA. He'd get into an argument and hang up on about every third caller or so because they didn't agree with him. Ahh, for the good old days when he was much more likeable.
ReplyDeleteIf only they'd put him back in that job and take him off doing the Yanks' radio play-by-play, where there's no way to escape him for 81 games on XM (though I suppose you could make him jealous, Ken, by sucking up to Joe Torre on the post-game show. Nobody did a better job than Sterling touting his ties to Yankee players than he did, though Susan Waldman's verbal orgasm over Roger Clemens' return last year deserves its own special mention).
Congratualtions, Ken. Now I won't have to listen to Hannity ranting and raving most afternoons. Just don't pre-empt Doug McIntyre in the mornings! LOL
ReplyDeleteI remember a season you did in the late 80s for the Orioles. They sucked with a vengeance. Listening to you and Jon Miller (yes, THAT Jon Miller) describe a still-young Cal Ripken were the only reasons to tune in.
ReplyDeleteI hope there's a heaven and one day we'll all be up there to hear Vin Scully and Ken Levine call Judgement Day.
ReplyDeleteWoof!
I promise not to call up and say, "Levine, you suck" -- unless you completely trash my Phillies after a Phillies-Dodger game. *g*
ReplyDeleteYou'll be warned when the studio producer says, "On the line now, we have Mary from the Florida Keys." :-)
Have fun at spring training. I'll miss your AI recap. I always write mine first, then run over to read yours to see if you and I thought the same contestants were awful.
I understand the Dodgers are celebrating their golden anniversary in California with a special game played in the Coliseum, against the Red Sox, before the season officially starts.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Ken, and good luck. That said: Boo, Hiss on the Dodgers. I've never forgiven them for leaving Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Tigers fan who never forgave him for what happened with Ernie, thanks for editing Rick Rizzs out of that sample.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll do my best to tune in when possible.
Congratulations, and good luck to the Dodgers (except for the six games they play against my Nationals).
ReplyDeleteWill you be on hand for the exhibition game vs. the Bosox at the Coliseum? (There are rumors floating that due to the overwhelming ticket sales, the Dodgers will repeat a Coliseum game in 2009 vs. the White Sox, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the teams' meeting in the World Series.)
Ken,
ReplyDeleteI promise to tune in to Dodger Talk regularly if you promise to bag on Juan Pierre.
Levine, you suck. You should be up here broadcasting in Seattle. We miss you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, do you even like the Dodgers?
