When you're on a series, one of the highlights of the wrap party is the gag reel. Kudos to all the editors who save the out-takes and put these together. Here's one from CHEERS from the second season. A tradition on CHEERS and many other shows is to end with a montage of all the guest actors who appeared throughout the season. To fully enjoy this gag reel you must be like we were at the time -- drunk on our asses. So grab four beers and come along.
Loved it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHonestly growing up (born in '79) I always thought the paintings were supposed to be of the characters, and thought the painters must have been horrible as the pictures looked nothing like the actors.
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for the gag reel, that was fun.
"It's the only line I know."
ReplyDeletePrecious, and pure Coach.
Thanks Ken.
Thanks for sharing, Ken. I hope you know how often you make our day!
ReplyDeleteIt would take a shit-load more than four beers for any of this dreck to be funny. It's just people making mistakes -- hardy-freakin-har.
ReplyDeleteAbout the only thing this "gag" reel proves is that actors aren't shit w/out writers.
Wonderful! Thank you.
ReplyDeletedago t: So actors going up on their lines proves they "aren't shit w/out writers?" Not following that logic. If a script doesn't read well, does it prove that writers aren't shit w/out actors?
ReplyDeleteIf you're saying that their ad libs aren't funny, well, that still doesn't "prove" anything about their acting abilities. It just proves they made a lame ad lib.

ReplyDeleteExcellent. Didn't know this was available.
ReplyDeleteYou know you're a fan, though, when you remember the line they were supposed to say. Sam was supposed to say he'd driven up to Vermont so much, they changed the sign to "Welcome, Sam."
My favorite Coach line might be one from the pilot episode. Diane visits Cheers for the first time. She asks Coach, "Where is your bathroom?" Coach answers, "Right next to my bedroom."
Ken, that was fun to watch, even without four beers!
ReplyDeleteOver the few years of reading your blog, you've shared a lot of great stories from M*A*S*H, Cheers, Frasier and Wings, but I don't remember many from Dharma & Greg. I'd particularly like to hear how they wound up casting that ensemble.
Just when I'd lost all hope that my kids would grow up with the same theme songs we know...Taylor (age 6) and I sang a duet, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe there were going to be some mistakes in the opening credits. Like the bartender holding up a newspaper saying "WE LOSE."
