Shake-up at ABC

It’s not just Fox. ABC just let their SVP of Comedy go. Samie Falvey is being replaced presumably by Kevin Plunkett who runs comedy for their studio. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Kevin and he’s terrific. Not that he’ll ever buy anything from me but he’s a great choice.

  1. Wait a minute! Complimenting a network SVP?

What the heck kind of weird curmudgeonly bellyaching is that?

A "terrific" network SVP? Does not compute. I must have woken up in a parallel universe today.

Next we'll be hearing about wonderful Republican Senators, and "Great Mormons". I'm disoriented.

WV: reentid. A stage action performed by an actor with a cold.

  2. This is good news. Comedy has been ABC's weak spot for a long, long time.

  4. I haven't seen Kevin in ages, but I used to do a lot of stuff for Disney Channel when he was there and always liked him. Jeez, why don't I stay in touch with these people?

  5. Question for Friday: What's the deal with the prolonged intro credits these days? I was watching a 9:00 p.m. drama this evening and the credits ended at 9:16. Getting ridiculous.

  6. Reason why I never would have made it in show biz #2305: I would never be able to refer to someone as a Senior Vice President of Comedy with anything approaching a straight face. I know, I know, there's a whole lot of money involved and these are people who work very hard, but still. "Hi Mom, after twenty years of hard work I've become a top executive at a major network." "What's your title, son?" "Senior Vice President of Comedy." "Mmm. Couldn't you tell people you're a makeup artist?"

  7. What "qualifications" does it take to get Executive Producer credit on a show?

  8. Good news. The Don King comedy juggernaut now has nothing but clear sailing ahead.
