The funniest LITERAL music video

A couple of weeks ago I shared my favorite music video. Several commenters mentioned "literal" versions. I've checked out a few and for my money this is hands down the funniest. TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART. Thanks to Dusto Films for this hilarious parody.

  1. My favorite by far.

  2. Oh, and this isn't Dusto Films, Dusto had the original concept.

  3. That was wrong on so. Many. Levels. :-)

Nice to see one of these pay respectful attention to rhyming and scansion for a change.

The lead singer, alas, is no Bonnie Tyler; that's a Class A hard song to sing, and she was a bit pitchy for me.

But even for that, this one was head and shoulders above the others I've seen.

Since your other flash player crashes by browser, Ken, I'm not sure if the A-ha video you linked is the original, or if you already know that Take On Me was one of the first batch of these (which was by Dusto).

  7. OMFG !!!!

Bonnie Tyler has been a guilty pleasure of mine for ages. And this Ultra Over the Top version is MAGNIFICENT!
Thanks, Ken, for bringing this to my attention.

  8. And now, since the 11,235 covers of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" have been thoughtfully redacted here -- as not being quite the same concept -- although Gloriously Gayer, let's just seize the opportunity to observe that Denise Richards' Funny or Die "Funbags" goof really does feel like a literal version of an actual Shopping Network. infomercial:

Alas, a point has to be subtracted for rhyming "up" with "up" towards the end.

  10. More fun in the musical parody on YouTube genre - the 'shreds' series of guitar solos, for instance:

    Eddie Van Halen Shreds

  11. Very funny, although it seemed they tried harder in the first half to match the original's rhyme scheme. Falsetto-guy definitely got the best lines.

VW: unnesq - The process of turning chocolate milk back to regular.

  14. Saw this a while ago and nearly died laughing, especially since I grew up in the 80's watching MTV. Brilliant!

  15. OK, if it isn’t obvious on a Saturday afternoon, I’m just catching up on my Kensiana with "Phoef Sutton, the Lost Historical Episodes" – for a much needed break from laying down sod in the back yard in 98 degree Texas weather (Or in the words of Vicente Fox, “Buck does work even illegal aliens are unwilling to do.”)

So on the off chance that Mr. Sutton is sticking with this gig for the duration, I just wanted him to know that Thanks killed at Old Sturbridge Village. The JMU graduation footage so kindly linked by Brian Phillips, not so much. But that’s only because I don’t think the graduwees realized that respectful attention wasn’t necessarily what you were going for. It’s also why they have Yale – so you can try out this commencement stuff in New Haven. BTW who does JMU play on Thanksgiving? I think the first one on Thanksgiving was Pilgrims vs. Puritans – although the Pilgrims had to Tailgate 10 years until the latter’s bus arrived. (Forgive me if anything like that might have been in a series episode.)

One of my favorite New Yorker cartoons shows a witch of some sort being dunked in colonial New England (waterboarding 101). One observer laments to another something to the effect of, “When will we ever learn that people don’t cause pestilence, disease, and foul weather because they are evil but because they are sick?

  16. YouTube took it down on a DMCA complaint, but to just about everyone's amazement actually put it back online. It's again available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA
and you can re-embed it on this page.
