Happy to announce that I'll be back next season calling a number of Seattle Mariners games with Rick Rizzs on 710 ESPN and the Seattle Mariners Radio Network. Don't know how many or when yet. I've requested all the games that Felix Hernandez starts but let's see. In the meantime, thanks so much to the M's, KIRO radio, and all of you who enjoyed my broadcasts last year and let the Mariners' know. Now I REALLY can't wait until spring training!

ReplyDeleteCongrats. To celebrate, here's a clip of the funniest damn baseball broadcast I ever saw. Bill Murray was filling in for Harry Caray after he'd had his stroke. First time in my life I cheered a rain delay. He must have riffed for 2 or 3 straight hours. Just brilliant. I had the whole thing on tape for years but my mom accidentally taped over it for one of her rapey MASH episodes.

Great, Ken. I have a question. When I watch the game on TV and listen on the radio, the TV is about 30 seconds behind. Why such a long delay? Is it a technical thing or do they delay it intentionally so they can bleep a fan yelling obscenities or something?

ReplyDelete@Cap'n Bob: Check out the last question at this link; it's more like a 10-second delay at most, and this answer is 4 years old, but I believe the same principle is still in effect.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeff. It sure seems more than 10 seconds. I recall hearing a runner being thrown out at first on the radio while on TV he was still approaching the plate. I'm sure my perspective was off.
