And why I'm still here. These are just a few of the pictures my son, Matt took from Maui (when he wasn't pulling vicious pranks on his dear father). If you're interested, you can see more here.
And below are two pictures that I took. Who's the better photographer? You decide.
Excellent photos. Good job, Matt.
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Puerto Rico, where shoreline scenes and sunsets like those were common. Played on the high school golf team at the best courses on the island, lifeguarded at the beach -heaven.
Maui is closer to the Bay Area, though. Would visit Maui.
Your son is an amazing photographer, Ken. Those pictures are stunning.
ReplyDeleteAs for yours, well, since I lack any photographic skills, I'll not cast stones. ;)
Hope you're having fun!
The first shot is spectacular. So is the last, in its own way (summit of Mt. Kilauea, isn't it?)
ReplyDeleteThat first pic's so stunning it's surreal. Adding to the surreal is the fact that if you zoom in on it, the water's crashing over a rock that looks exactly like Waldorf from the Muppets.
ReplyDeleteReligions have started with less.
Wow - "Wailea Sunset" (#1) is stunning.
ReplyDeleteAnd your shot of the green Accent is nice too.
Nice upgraded rental car they gave you in pic number 4, Ken -- a late-model Hyundai Accent covered with volcanic ash. What did they step you up from, a 1972 Pinto with front end damage?
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, hope you're enjoying Hawaii!
Oh, and props to Matt for the great pics he shot.
Ken, it's not that your photographic skills lack, it's the subjects you choose to shoot. Sure, anybody can make a beautiful Maui sunset into a terrific photo. A car with a flat tire? Much more challenging.
ReplyDeleteGood gravy, how beautiful. Wow.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, Matt! Ken, I have the same photographic relationship with my daughters. Enjoy the pineapple...
ReplyDeleteVery cool pictures. Somewhere down the line, a sitcom needs a character with a $2000 SLR camera, hollywood parents, and an engineering job that pushes them to ditch the cubicle in favor of very colorful beach landscapes.
ReplyDeleteBecause I can....
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me with these pics. I'm missing Napili/Kapalua like crazy.
ReplyDeleteYou're obviously the better photographer. Because you took actual pictures of actual places. The ones from your son must come from some sort of computer game fantasy land because, especially sitting here in grey Chicago, I can't imagine a real place looking like that.
ReplyDeleteIt just occurred to me that you're in Hawaii on New Year's. You should go to a store and see if all the calendars are Minnesota themed.
ReplyDeleteKen, when you get back to the mainland, head over to Santa Monica pier and take oceanside photos at sunset. You won't miss Maui quite as much.
ReplyDeletewv: "redla" -- What the John Birch Society, Richard Nixon and the Times in its "true industrial freedom" days campaigned to prevent.
