This is a RIOT and it's REAL. When cameras weren't allowed in a recent court trial, one local TV station decided to go one better than just sketches. They recreate the trial with puppets. And the ratings have skyrocketed. See for yourself.
This is awesome. A great way around the old no-cameras-in-the-courtroom trick, and a wonderful way to spice up the newscasts. (Although I noted the anchor in the middle clip seemed appalled that the station was doing this. Come on, have a sense of humor.) I was kind of surprised to see this was from the CBS affiliate in a rather big market (Cleveland, OH). This is the kind of light-hearted experimentation I'd associate more with smaller markets.
I live in Cleveland, and I can tell you that particular channel (a UHF channel that hooked up with CBS after FOX bought out the Tiffiny Network's original affiliate) has a reputation for sensationalist coverage of local news, which I don't mind as long as they get their facts straight. A couple of years ago, this station made national headlines when one of their reporters participated in a Stephen Tunic nude photo shoot ON THE AIR (her private parts were blurred.) Ironically, Cleveland's Fox affiliate does NOT sensationalize its local news coverage. I chalk that to it originally being affiliated with CBS for some 40-odd years.
By the way, before Jimmy Dimora, our disgraced and now indicted former County Commissioner, shaved off his beard, he bore a striking resemblence to Boss Tweed.
Aha DimSkip... we revamped the Rumpus Room for ya, but you just don't show... so you know what? We'll link to mr Ken Levine's blog there so we can keep tabs on your every move, hehe. But we of course also appreciate the humor we find here. Since you recommended it once upon a time ;-)

If the O.J. trial had been covered this way... "If the puppet doesn't fit, you must acquit."

ReplyDeleteI don't claim to compete with this, but I did find another surprise going through old episodes of THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE:
