Off topic...casting directors. Woody Allen and many others are on a quest to have them recognized, even to the point of Oscars and Emmys (and rightly so). Any stories about CDs?
Bogey had four of them in Casablanca alone, plus the one from The Maltese Falcon.
No one else had more than 3
- Brando (Godfather, On the Waterfront, Streetcar) - Hanks (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, League of their Own) - Davis (All About Eve, Now Voyager, Dead Ringer) - Leigh (Gone With the Wind {2}, Streetcar) - Pacino (Godfather II, Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon)
One of my favorites from "The Wizard of Oz" -- "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain."
Sort of in line with unkystan's question, if I were a CD, I'd be on the phone calling about the actress (Selyna Greenman) in the Audi commercial - "We're going to need a bigger bucket." In 30 seconds, everything from her stance to her delivery makes me laugh. I guess some object to the commercial because it mocks the true spirit of giving and those who collect donations, but she is funny. It reminds me of Sandy Duncan making a big impression in those bank commercials so many years ago. I can't recall the bank name now, but she was a sensation, seemingly having come out of nowhere.
"My name is Inego Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die." The Princess Bride.
"But this one goes to 11." This is Spinal Tap.
"Luke, I am your father, you hoser." Strange Brew, I was originally just going to use the original quote from Empire Strikes Back, but than I decided to add in the "you hoser" because I think it is funny.
"Excuse me, I speak jive." Airplane, I think this is a better line than the "don't call me Shirley."
You are correct Steve and Anonymous! Bogey's the winner with six: -"The stuff that dreams are made of." -"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine." -"We'll always have Paris." -"Here's looking at you, kid." -"Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." Another fun thing to do: Turn off the sound and see how many you can guess.
"Allllrighty then" or "Like a glove" - Ace Venture
"Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?" - Batman
"Smokin'" - Mask
Arthur: Hobson? Hobson: Yes. Arthur: Do you know what I'm going to do? Hobson: No, I don't. Arthur: I'm going to take a bath. Hobson: I'll alert the media. Arthur: Do you want to run my bath for me? Hobson: That's what I live for. Hobson: Perhaps you would like me to come in there and wash your dick for you, you little shit.
"Get busy living, or get busy dying. That's goddamn right" and "Fresh fish, fresh fish..." - Shawshank Redemption
"We're going back to the future"
Randolph Duke: Money isn't everything, Mortimer. Mortimer Duke: Oh, grow up. Randolph Duke: Mother always said you were greedy. Mortimer Duke: She meant it as a compliment.
The Lion to the Tin Man: "How long can you stay fresh in that can?"
Monty Python and the Holy Grail: "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!"
Young Frankenstein: "Put...the...candle...beck."
Singin' in the Rain: "An' I cyenn't styeend 'im."
1934 Babes in Toyland: Stan Laurel: "Ya not scared now." Oliver Hardy: "Why that's neither pig nor pork. It's beef." Henry Brandon: "Now my little friend, wee shall seee." Felix Knight: "Oh yes we weeill."
The Court Jester: "The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. The flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true."
Mary Poppins: "I never explain anything." "Enough is as good as a feast."
The Godfather: "That's my family, Kay. That's not me."
Red Skelton in Rudolph's Shiny New Year: "Hyeppy Neeuuw Yeer."

Anybody care to name the actor who says the most of those 100 lines?
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how I haven't actually seen most of those movies, but I know almost all of those lines.
ReplyDeleteOff topic...casting directors. Woody Allen and many others are on a quest to have them recognized, even to the point of Oscars and Emmys (and rightly so). Any stories about CDs?
ReplyDelete"I like money."
ReplyDelete-Pretty much everyone in Idiocracy
Is it Humphrey Bogart who says most of the lines?
ReplyDeleteVincentS:

No one else had more than 3

- Pacino (Godfather II, Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon)
I think they missed a few, mainly from comedies:
ReplyDelete"My name is Inego Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."
"But this one goes to 11."
"Luke, I am your father, you hoser."
"Excuse me, I speak jive."

@Matt: What are those lines from? I don't recognize a single one of them.
ReplyDelete@Bobby, just in case you aren't joking.

Matt, that's a great line from Airplane but there are even funnier ones. This is one of my favorite exchanges:
ReplyDeleteCaptain, how soon can you land?
I can't tell.
You can tell me, I'm a doctor.
No, I mean I'm just not sure.
Well, can't you take a guess?
Not for another two hours.
You can't take a guess for another two hours?
No, I mean we can't land for another two hours.

Sorry, I meant five.

ReplyDelete"I'll see you in HELL!!!!"
ReplyDeleteBesides speaking five, Bogey is also listening to one - about "badges".
ReplyDeleteCould make a case they missed two of the most famous movie quotes, more famous than most of those here because they are part of the general vernacular
"Gambling in Casablanca? I'm shocked, shocked".
And maybe the most famous of all
"Follow the money".
Thanks for sharing this Ken. I think perhaps I have spent a lot of hours, days, months, nay years in the dark----but it has been wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOft-quoted in my home:

Herman Munster:
"Oh, hello Mr. Die. This is my wife, Lily."
The one that affected me the most, in all my life:
ReplyDelete"Earn this."
The Toga line from Animal House is no where good as this:
ReplyDelete"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
Anonymous: "What a dump!" is from BEYOND THE FOREST, not DEAD RINGER.
ReplyDelete"Is it safe?"
ReplyDelete"Bueller? Bueller?"
A few more (for the second hundred, at least)
ReplyDeleteHarvey Keitel: "I'm Winston Wolfe. I solve problems." Pulp Fiction.
Russian sailors: "Emergency! Everybody to get from street!" The Russians Are Coming the Russian Are Coming.
Jeff Bridges: "The Dude abides." and "Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!" The Big Lebowski
