Some random thoughts on today's NFL Championship Games

All NFL playoff games should be played outdoors. The worse the weather, the better.

Even though the Seahawks were trailing by 16 and it was rainy and windy, I bet not one single Hawks fan left the stadium early.

How many QB’s throw four interceptions and still win the NFC championship?   Russel Wilson is one lucky and great quarterback.

Green Bay should have gone for the TD’s in the first quarter when it was 4th and Goal on the 1. Bilichick would’ve.

I don’t care what anybody says, Joe Buck does a great job.

That’s what the Colts get for leaving Baltimore (not that I carry a grudge).

Could you follow all those New England formations? I was so lost I thought the kicker was eligible.

By the third quarter of the AFC game I was hoping they’d just give it to New England and show a new GOOD WIFE.

Since New England is not playing the Giants, Brady has a chance to finally win his 4th Super Bowl.

This is Super Bowl XXIVVCLVVIXXX, right?

I didn’t know that Terry Bradshaw had Shingles, did you?

Packer fans must still be in shock.

How often do onside kicks actually work?

So when Richard Sherman’s arm was hanging by a thread, why didn’t Rodgers throw to the man he was covering every down?

Did you notice passes from Rodgers to Rodgers and Wilson to Willson?

The Fox graphic and referee explanation about the overtime rules confused the hell out of me. I thought the kicker was eligible.

Congratulations to the Seahawks on a remarkable comeback victory. The true mark of a champion.

And the Patriots are clearly the best team in the AFC.

Now the stage is set… for the Pro Bowl. Anything after that is gravy.

  1. As a Packer fan, I'm not OVERLY in shock. The lack of red zone productivity and holes in the defense were, unfortunately, common themes all season.

Here in Milwaukee we'll just have to focus on the Bucks for awhile, until Brewer season starts. Um, yea...

Sometimes (most times) being a Wisconsin sports fan is tough...

The Packers looked like they took a dive. The onside kick hits the sure-handed receiver in the helmet?! The defender on the two point conversion reacts to this forever in the air Hail Mary pass like he'd just smoked something medicinal?! I swear I saw Michael Corleone and Tony Soprano together behind the Green Bay bench.

THE SEAHAWKS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!

  6. You don't get down to the one yard line that often on the Seahawks, so you go for it. Taking the 3 shows a lack of confidence in your offense. If they went for it and didn't make it, Seattle's starting from the 1 yard line. Three and out and Green Bay's got great field position.

That lame duck that Wilson floated for the 2pt conversion, what the hell was the DB doing?

The onside kick, Jordy Nelson, the best hands on the team is in positon to catch the ball and end the game and Bostick, who is A BLOCKER (and clearly a BLOCKHEAD) decides he can catch it.

What I hate most is to now have to listen to Pete Carroll and all those assholes talk about "team" and "never giving up." Pure Puke.

I hope Brady has the game of his career. Oh, did I mention I HATE Seattle.

  7. Actually, some Seattle fans did leave early. I checked out (on the radio) with 2:50 in the 4th and Green Bay with the ball and up 19 - 7. But football games go 60 minutes. As any woman would say 'Always finish'.

  8. Green Bay coach will be bombarded with criticism for the decision to go for the Field Goal from the 1, but what would Lombardi do?

You know that if The Good Wife came on before the final minutes ticked down, it would have become The Heidi Game ;-)

  10. The 1960s-'70s had Super Bowl Sunday as a mid-January, mid-afternoon game.

The 1980s-'90s had Super Bowl Sunday migrate to late January, and later Sunday afternoon, well into Sunday night.

The "aughts" and this decade now have the spectacle the first Sunday night in February, generally approaching 7:00 P.M.

(Granted, these are all times Eastern... )

So, how many expect to eventually see "America's Unofficial Holiday" on the last Sunday in February, an all day/night shindig culminating in a midnight game ( i.e. New Year's Eve ... and I'm not sure if I'm even kidding or not ...)

  11. Great thoughts. Insert the words "Peyton Manning" for every Tom Brady reference and we heard the same thing last year. Go Hawks!

  12. Love seeing those tackle-eligible players catching TD passes, especially on Seattle's fake field goal (that call was gutsy). The many celeb Seahawks fans -- Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson -- have to be thrilled.

Meanwhile, the Washington Nationals' strong rotation gets even stronger with the addition of Max Scherzer, meaning that for now, Tanner Roark -- arguably the best #5 starter in MLB in 2014 -- probably will become a setup man following the trade of Tyler Clippard last week. With this acquisition and both University of Maryland basketball teams leading the Big Ten and likely rated in the top 10 this week, all is right with the world for this D.C. emigre.

  13. The Buck stops ne'er1/19/2015 8:44 AM

I don’t care what anybody says, Joe Buck does a great job.

And not caring is what Joe Buck is all about.

Well, okay, Buck the Lesser is a little more bearable during football games. For his droning baseball broadcasts, though, you have to jab him with a pin and shove a mirror under his nose like the corpse in Stanley Donen's "Charade."

To think that Al Michaels hasn't announced a World Series game since 1995, Vin Scully not since 1988, and Jon Miller making a run at never... ugh.

  16. Hey Anonymous, neener-neener, you dork.

I turned off the TV at halftime, which is why the Seahawks won. Whenever I watched bad things happened to them. I admit it, I'm a jinx, so I didn't watch and they won.
A greater love hath no fan.

As a Seattle native, and a 10-year hostage in Chicago (in the 80s), I can say w/out any reservations, I hate all Wisconsin sports teams. I like the people, well, those with names, but as an old Bears' fan...FO Pack. And Selig stole our baseball team in 1970 so an additional FU for Bud! But justice prevailed for the Suds cuz now you're stuck with that hapless bunch and we have a newer hapless bunch with, ironically, your old asst. GM as our farcical leader.

Gotta wonder, on the flight back to GB, how many players actually jumped, and was Bostick thrown out? Bet he won't be doing any All-State commercials.

And a big FO for Anonymous two.

  19. What would Lombardi do? He showed that back in '67, skipping the game-tying field goal and overtime for a QB sneak on a hockey rink ... that worked.

  20. Boo hoo hoo, crybaby Aaron. You were the better team, eh? Yeah, that's why you'll be watching the Super Bowl on your TV at home, nursing your calf. No class, but whaddaya expect from a Packer?

  25. The Ice Bowl, first year I followed football I watched that game hoping that the Cowboys would take out the Packers. That was so disapointing. The Pack would end up beating my two favorite teams at the time Favorite NFL team the LA Rams and my favorite AFL team the Oakland Raiders.

  26. I went to the Seahawks game on Sunday. Very, very few fans left early. After another interception with about five minutes to go and the Seahawks down by 12,a couple hundred began to make their way to the exits, but the other 68,000 were there until the end. In fact, they ALL stayed another 15 minutes or so after the game to see the trophy presentation and to bask in the glow. It was weird. Nobody left and nobody wanted to leave.

  27. Ken: I was at the Seahawks game. About 2,000 fans left with 5 minutes left. They were getting booed, but still they left. And they found out afterward that CenturyLink Field does not allow in-and-out privileges.

Also, I texted all the people around me who left to thank them for going home because clearly they were bad luck charms.

The ending of the game was so shocking, and so thrilling, Joe Buck's pulse went up from 8 beats per minute to 9.
