I wrote an article for SPORTS ILLUSTRATED recently on Hall of Fame Broadcaster, Dave Niehaus. He was my partner with the Seattle Mariners and a great friend. In the Northwest he is beloved. Recently it went up on line so I thought I would share it with you.

Great article, nicely written. It choked me up. I live in Seattle and remember listening to him...and you...on the radio for the Mariners games. Sometimes he drove me nuts because he could go a half hour or more and not say the score or what inning it was. But whatever tangent he was on pretty much always turned out to be more interesting anyway. And...when you said you guys would start singing the Wabash Cannonball, I think that is what Dizzy Dean used to do when I was a kid. He would do the games on TV with Pee Wee Reese.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was on a long drive somewhere during the summer, there was nothing better than dialing in the radio until I found the Mariner game and knew that I would have a friend along for the ride. I thought about Dave just the other night when Ichiro homered in what might well be his final Safeco Field at bat. My oh my, Dave would've loved that!
ReplyDeleteLovely job. Not to do clickbait or anything, but Pat Hughes, the wonderful Cubs announcer, does CD tributes to broadcasters and he did a sweet one to Dave.
