  1. Since you posted about Johnny Carson a couple days ago, some of these answers seem more along the lines of Carnac The Magnificent than Jeopardy. You got a turban?

  7. The “Abby Singer Shot.” - What is the second to last shot of an episode. Or What is the title of the second to last episode of St. Elsewhere? Actually I think it was titled "The Abby Singer Show." Which was fitting since he was one of the producers for the show.

  12. Here is a Friday Question -
You have posted so many interesting things about MASH - I am curious of the role of your Medical Adviser, Walter Dishell. How did you use his knowledge when writing and how engaged was he on a daily/weekly basis. With so many medical shows on TV, my wife is an ER nurse and just laughs at the "reality" they show!
    Thanks

  13. I know only Abby Singer. Who was the AD who had named after him the shooting day's penultimate shot? And do you know why? Cuz he would always call it as the 'last shot of the day' - and he was invariably wrong cuz the director would add one more shot. So....

  15. VIPness:

The only time I ever came up with a comeback without missing a beat:

At my work the word had spread about my brand new Professional Engineer's License. Walking up the aisle, I was confronted by a co-worker, an architect, who bowed and intoned:

    "Honors to your Pee-Eee-ness"

    I bowed back and said:

    "Honors to your AIA-ness"

(AIA = American Institute of Architects)

  16. My guess on HAPPY DAYS and THE ODD COUPLE are shows that started out as single-camera and then switched to Multi-Cam taped in front of live audience.

  17. #6. Who are two people who have never been in my kitchen?

  18. I was wondering if you would possibly consider loosening the comment monitoring. I think you ran off the commentator who made it neccessary. I just like it better when you can get or give real time responses.

However, you see all the comments and if you think it is necessary I will still follow the blog.

  19. Matt,

There are still trolls so I've got to continue monitoring. I guess that's the price of popularity so trolls must mean I'm doing something right.

  20. William Devane and a former Ram: Name two of the worst/most difficult actors you've ever worked with?

  21. Starred in a TV movie about herself. Who was Patty Duke?

  22. Schmuck Bait: Why would NBC broadcast that Alex Jones interview last night?

  23. I'm a credit reader and I know who this guy is, so I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for question to "The “Abby Singer Shot.”

    ReplyDelete
  24. This was really obvious once I stopped and thought about it. It's clearly an interview with Ken, and I'm pretty sure it went like this:

Thanks for meeting, Ken. If we could just start the interview talking about your new project. What's it about?

    > A rotating joke, a restaurant, and a congressman.

Sounds original. I understand you went to Kickstarter for funding. Who gave you the money? Was it fans of Cheers and Frasier, or fans of new comedy?

    > William Devane and a former Ram.

Oh. Just literally two backers? Hmm. I guess that could be seen as good...?

    > VIPness.

Right. A very exclusive backer pool. So if you had to say the show was a cross between something, what would it be?

    > ALL IS FORGIVEN and THE TORTELLIS.

Huh! Quite a mix. Who's starring?

    > The dialogue coach on FLIPPER.

And who wrote it with with you?

    > Molly Ringwald and Darryl Hannah.

Wow. I didn't expect that. But let's talk about your star. How did you get the dialogue coach from Flipper? It says in my notes that he was cleaning pools when you found him.

    > Would have stayed in Sacramento if they had only given him a small raise.

I guess their loss is your gain. So what's the show called?

    > The “Abby Singer Shot.”

What are your best case, worst case hopes for the show?

You're really expecting a lot. Although it says here you'll be kicked off if you don't hit those ratings. What kind of crazy deal is that?

    > An “Up and Back.”

Jeez. So getting back to the show, I understand you originally had another actress in mind to play the female lead...

    > Hope Lange.

Right, she obviously passed away before you could cast her. What characteristics did you look for in the actress who eventually took her role?

    > Starred in a TV movie about herself.

That's pretty specific. And how are you selling this show to advertisers?

    > Schmuck bait.

Probably a big market. So tell me more about your famous co-writers. How does your partnership work?

    > Paper partners.

I guess that's a Hollywood term. Tell me, is it true they sometimes appear in shows under pseudonyms?

    > Charlie Haid and Walton Goggins.

You're kidding! Although I think I can see the resemblance, now that you mention it. I hear you have another project in the works that's too secret. I know you can't share specifics, but if you had to say it was a cross between two shows, how would you describe it?

    > HAPPY DAYS and THE ODD COUPLE.

That actually sounds like there might be potential for big success. Where is it set?

    > Camelot.

Hmm. So finally, you've plucked this dialogue coach from obscurity. What would you like see happen for him if the show's a success?

    > Studio 25 at the NBC Burbank Studios is named in his honor.

You should be an agent! Thanks for your time.

  25. 55 share, 19 share: What were the ratings for the final episode of MASH and the first episode of AfterMASH?

  26. Studio 25 at the NBC Burbank Studios is named in his honor.

    Who is Art Fleming?

I was very careful to phrase that in the form of a question.

  27. An “Up and Back.”

What is a reversal joke form coined by Stan Daniels?

What is a joke in which a character suddenly reverses their attitude like on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, horny Sue Anne Nivens might describe a man she met: "He's hard. He's cruel. He's sadistic... I think I'm in love."

Would have stayed in Sacramento if they had only given him a small raise.
    What is Arnold Schwarzenegger's penis?

    The “Abby Singer Shot.”
What is the assassination of John Lennon? (sorry for that one)

    An “Up and Back.”
