You may have noticed that the fonts and size of fonts have been a little funky at times lately. That’s because Blogger, in its infinite wisdom, decided to change their template. We’re told of course this is a big improvement and we can do more whiz-bang things. But the things we’ve BEEN doing for years we can no longer do. And good luck actually getting a Blogger tech person on the phone to assist you in this transition.
So please bare with me as I continue to experiment and try to normalize things again. If you happen to be a Blogger expert, please email me at HollywoodLevine@outlook.com. I’ve always depended upon the kindness of strangers.
And I only went to the new template because they said as of June 30th the old one would go away. So I had no choice.
When I do have a choice to upgrade, I’ve learned to say NO.
One time my smart phone asked if I wanted their free upgrade. Sure, I stupidly said. With the upgrade in place I discovered my phone no longer synced to the computer. My operating system was too old for the new phone upgrade. So I had to upgrade my whole operating system. Now a lot of programs that had been running fine stopped working because the operating system was too new. So I had to reinstall new versions of long running programs. For months I wrestled with this bullshit. And it all could have been avoided had I just not gotten the phone upgrade.
So phone upgrades continue to pop up and I say no. They take me to upgrade pages anyway, and I’ve found the best way to make them go away is when they have boxes at the bottom for “Agree to terms” or “Disagree” – just click on Disagree and poof, it’s gone.
Yeah, I’m missing out of exciting new features. I’ll live.
They'll have to drag me kicking and screaming to a new template. Computers have given me enough headaches lately.
ReplyDeleteI have used blogger for 15 years and I am also frustrated with the change. I cannot use the key words or if I do, it will not post. I also have to use the text before the picture when in the past, I used the picture first and then the text.
ReplyDeleteOn the flip side, the mobile blogger seems to work better, but I cannot always be sure that will publish.
As far as your blog, I hadn't noticed any change.
I had exactly the same experience with Blogger. I don't ask it to do much, but I want it to do what I've grown accustomed to doing. Is that too much to ask?
ReplyDeleteI've always had problems with Blogger changing fonts on me in the middle of something I've posted. Still, it's worked well enough for me and the price is right (free). But these new changes are not at all helpful.
ReplyDeleteAfter struggling with the new configuration for awhile, I went back to the classic mode. Then I got the message that "Tough s**t, user! It's all going to new stuff on June 30th! Ha! Ha!"
Well, I'm not going gently into this good night and will continue to grasp and claw at classic Blogger until I absolutely cannot anymore.
Gosh, I hope nothing happens to this wonderful blog. It's a national treasure.
ReplyDeleteSince it's been years since I started reading your blog the giant sized fonts have adjusted to my failing eyes I like the new size.
ReplyDeleteI've been putting off even looking at the new blogger. I'm afraid that if it's as bad as every other Google update that i'll just stop blogging.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe consider a new platform and move the blog.
Any suggestions from more knowledgable folks?
If you have the choice go for something old school like Pica or Courier. i.e. something that looks like an old typewriter. That would be cool.
ReplyDeleteM.B.
Unfortunately, turning down upgrades in many cases means that the exciting new feature you're missing is improved security. At some point, that really will matter.
ReplyDeletewg
I despise upgrades, nothing works the way they say it will.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW ITS SO ANNOYING WHEN THEY CHANGE THE FONT ITS DIFFICULT TO READ AND PEOPLE USE BAD GRAMMAR AND RUN ON SENTENCES ITS FUCKING ANNOYING
ReplyDeleteHere in Chicago, for many years the Number One morning radio guy was Bob Collins on WGN AM720.
ReplyDeleteUncle Bobby was old-fashioned funny; many modern "conveniences" were anything but that for him, not least being cybertechnology.
He always referred to these devices of ours as "confusers"; those of us who were contemporaries of his knew the feeling all too well.
Uncle Bobby is twenty years gone now, killed in a private plane accident.
He didn't live to see all the wondrous "upgrades" that you describe above.
Was he the lucky one?
You tell me …
Luckily, it doesn't appear my highly customized Scarblog has been affected . . . yet.
