Very interesting stuff. I've been enjoying these interviews with writers and directors who worked on FRASIER and CHEERS.
ReplyDeleteAnd after looking into it, Katy Garretson directed one of the all-time funniest FRASIER episodes, "Boo", from season 11 where Frasier dresses up as a clown and gives his father a heart attack.
Gee, it doesn't sound so funny put that way...
But it is one of my favorites, and excellent episodes all around. I've learned a lot about the difference between single-cam and multi-cam live shooting. It sounds like a lot of work, so I salute you.
I would love to hear your review of the Sarah Cooper special.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was over produced and under written. Fred Armison was on it but just sat there, occasionally changing into various funny outfits. Maya Rudolph was there, but as usual not in the least bit funny. Her main talent is being friends with Tina and Amy.
I wish they had let Sarah showcase herself and not just do a character the whole time.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear how it works for 'special' directors getting into the game - do many writers push to try and direct or is it a personal thing? Is it easier directing a show you've written for (or created ;) ) or better to come in cold? When you have actors like Kelsey direct, how does that work out - and does that ever cause problems story wise, if the actor is going to be busy directing?
