Nice insights. Thanks to both Ken and Joe for putting this together. I'm looking forward to Part 2.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Mike Richards may become the permanent host of Jeopardy.

ReplyDeleteWOW - Joe Buck! What a heavy hitter - same league (though less of a "veteran") as Al Michaels (another "coup".)
Who's Next - Vin Scully??
Okay. I admit, I listened to this. I am a Joe Buck critic. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me but I enjoyed this podcast and enjoyed his anecdotes and perspective on broadcasting. I will say that I find his voice better on baseball than football. Still 30 minutes is about all I can take in one sitting. I may just listen to part 2 next week. I must be getting soft in my old age.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand Joe Buck criticism. There’s so much of it. To each their own, I get that, but truly not with this guy.
ReplyDeleteEvery box is checked to perfection, including the scarce commodity of a fun personality. There’s literally nothing he tries at which he doesn’t excel.
On the other hand there is a media person for whom you have expressed admiration - and is to some (many) that person is a vile monster. So, to each their own. But Joe Buck hatred? Never got that.
I came late to the Mariners - so also only got a little of Dave Niehaus' old school baseball lingo (can 'o corn, anyone?)
ReplyDeleteI imagine Jack Buck had similarly colorful expressions at his disposal.
I best know Ernie Johnson as the professional announcer with the NBA champs and hall-of-famers on Inside the NBA. But he may be at his best when he calls baseball. We only get him doing postseason - and not enough of that.
Joe Buck is "just a pro" - so smooth and on top of it, that his ease almost makes him un-noticable (almost).
What a nice conversation with Joe Buck. I think part of the criticism is just a bit of bandwagon effect, people piling on for the sake of piling on. I thought that he was a pretty good sport about himself on BROCKMIRE.
ReplyDeleteI’m with the folks who think Joe Buck is the epitome of a professional announcer. I really enjoyed part one and look forward to part two.
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with the above, but the “prove you’re not a robot” box is becoming more and more of an obstacle for me as my vision deteriorates. Bah!
