For all the radio stations playing Christmas music, there are still forgotten songs you’ve never heard. Ken has found them. Enjoy holiday music you won’t hear anywhere else. Okay, there’s a reason you don’t hear some of these. But others are great. Happy H&L holidays!

MY EARS....THEY'RE BLEEDING! {I've heard some of these before.......and hope I never hear them again.} I'm more into the novelty ones [Christmas at Ground Zero, Alvin & The Chimpunks, John Valby [Doctor Dirty] and his absolutely hilarious and filthy Christmas tunes, Red Peters, etc.]
ReplyDeleteI'm actually happy to hear these. Most were unfamiliar to me and many of them were darn good. If you want to go that route next holiday season, I'll send you some suggestions in October.
ReplyDeleteThe jokey ones do have their place. In fact, next year you can do TWO shows, one with Santa's Too Fat For the Hula Hoop by the Pixies with Thurl Ravenscroft and another with The Mistletoe and Me by Isaac Hayes. (YOU decide which goes where...)
Just looked it up and was shocked to see that Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown was written for the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service by John Barry and Hal David.
ReplyDeleteGuess they can’t all be gems.
In case anyone doesn't know and does care, Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown, the first song Ken played, is a cover of a song that plays in the background of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service. They play it at the skating rink as Bond (George Lazenby) is trying to hide from Blofeld's men. The original vocalist was Nina.
ReplyDeleteIf Die Hard is a Christmas movie, surely On Her Majesty's Secret Service is as well.
ReplyDeleteMost of these are unfamiliar to me. So nice to be surprised by Christmas music (although I do have a soft spot for those old Firestone and Goodyear Christmas albums you could get at gas stations).
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated topic (potential Friday question?), was there ever talk of Shelley Long guesting on Becker?
Now, you're really up my alley with the obscure recordings. Reminds me that I need to get moving on posting obscure celebrity Christmas records on our "Hollywood Hi-Fi" Facebook page. But where is Barry Gordon's "Zoomah, the Santa Claus From Mars?"
ReplyDeleteInteresting choices!
ReplyDeleteHere are two seldom-heard Christmas songs:

This next one is so old, it was considered sacrilege to mix R&B and Christmas, so they pulled the album off the shelves.
