YOU DUPED

YOU TUBE should be called DUPED YOU. So many of these slice-of-life videos turn out to be hoaxes. The latest is this one. A girl on her wedding day freaks out. I mean, a meltdown even Sean Penn would approve. It’s received over 9,000,000 hits (waaaay more than my Sorkin parody) and causing cyber buzz. But it’s really staged – four actress wannabes from Canada cooked up the whole thing. I applaud their ingenuity but I’m not crazy about this trend of misleading people for attention. I guess what I’m really saying is I WANT TO SEE REAL WEDDING MELTDOWNS!

  1. Maybe it should be called "You Audition." Nine million hits?

Too bad they couldn't charge admission. Just a dollar a hit would set them for li... erm, for... a long time.

Depending on their spending habits and tax situation and...

    Oh, never mind.

  2. I was cracking up laughing every time she screamed lol!

But then if I didn't know it was fake I would be shocked speechless...

I think it's great that people are imitating the video blog style of filming :)

  3. Dwacon, don't forget the currency conversion since youtube.com is an American enterprise and these chicks are from north of the 49th. So, really... they will be lucky to break even after the conversion and by the time Revenue Canada would get through with them. :-)

  4. It was definitely entertaining, but I did find it suspicious that there would be a large scissors so handy in their hotel bathroom.

  5. I could tell this was fake from the very beginning, and was just irritated by it. and the canadian accent just bugs.

  6. I think it is best to take anything on You Tube or America's Funniest Home Videos with a grain of salt

  7. The Esther character was convincing - there's always someone who thinks the chaos going on around them is amusing.

God knows how drama is going to develop, but stuff like this is interesting.

  8. Why does a Canadian accent offend you so much, Anon? Was it not twangy enough, or Southern enough, or Ebonics enough for your delicate, pretty little girlie ears?

  9. Um, were people really taken in by this? They're not very good actors. At least I didn't believe a second of it.

  10. Apparently it's another viral marketing campaign, for some sort of haircare product. Quick, someone alert the Boston authorities!

Me, I thought it was plausible. The Smoking Gun has posted mug shots of a bride who was arrested on her wedding day for starting a knockdown, drag-out fight at the reception.

  11. Just a bunch of creative Canucks making a short. Hope they can parlay the 15 minutes into something decent.
