How a baseball is made

As the World Series continues, I'm always looking for baseball posts for people who don't give a crap about baseball. Here's one for anyone just curious or that entrepreneur looking to start his own sweat shop. How a baseball is made. This is from the Discovery Channel and it's pretty fascinating. Before you can "play ball" you gotta "make ball".

  2. Yes, it was fascinating. Ken is not only a great blogger and writer, now he's an educator!

  5. I have always liked "How It's Made" as they oftem find the real obscure items. This is not an obscure item but I missed it - thanks for posting.

  6. Not a baseball fan, but this was interesting. Amazing how much manual labor is still involved.

  7. Thanks to the Discovery Channel, we also know something else about a baseball...the story behind the special mud that is rubbed on every one used in the major leagues. As I think you may have guessed, that was courtesy of their show DIRTY JOBS. The location of the place from which the muck comes is so top-secret, Mike Rowe and his crew had to be blindfolded before the man who harvests and prepares the product would take them there.

  8. Well I love baseball and that was awesome. Did they ever say where the factory was?

  9. xjill: I remember an episode of "Modern Marvels" on various ball sports that showed this factory. If I remember correctly it's in Puerto Rico.
