Hey, Siri

Just got the new iPhone with all them schnazzy features.  So far I'm having trouble with Siri.  She refuses to pronounce my name correctly.   To make the point, I called her Say-ree and she started to cry.  I  dunno.  Me and women.  Otherwise, the new phone is cool.  How do I make calls on this thing?

If you ask her to tell you a story she'll say no a few different ways but will eventually tell you her origin story in a scifi way.

  2. My nephew has Siri on his phone - sidenote: when he first said it I thought it was something to do with Tom and Katie's kid...anyway, he keeps bringing the thing up, ready to wow my socks off with it -and all I've ever heard her say is "I heard you, but could not understand the words you said." which is then followed by a few VERY choice words from my nephew. I hope your experience is better.

  3. You can say "Call me Doofus" and from then on Siri will do just that.

  4. Ken - You can "teach" Siri the correct pronunciation of any name in your address book:

    1) Open the "Contacts" app and open the entry for the name you want to fix.

    2) Tap the "Edit" button in the upper-right corner.

    3) Scroll alllllll the way down until you see the "Add Field" button. Tap.

    4) Select "Phonetic First Name" or "Phonetic Last Name."

    5) Type in the phonetic pronunciation.

    Done!

Also, Siri will work better as time goes by as it figures out your voice.

  5. I don't know if Siri has informed you and Matt...but Bobby Valentine is the new manager of the Red Sox.

  6. Calls? Start training your thumbs and then you can text all the time, just like the kids are doing these days. Nobody actually uses these things as phones anymore.

  8. They work best when you get the docking station and plug them into you home phone. At least I think that's what my iSon said...

  9. I didn't think you were supposed to make calls, just tweet, leave phantom notes in the sky at your favorite restaurants for your friends to see, and read the paper.....

  10. You might want to let her keep pronouncing your name incorrectly. That way, when she becomes self aware and steals your identity. It will be like a shibboleth so your friends and family will know which one is the evil robot and which one is the real you.

  11. Actually, the best thing about Siri is that it will take dictation on texts. Notice I didn't say "she."
