My favorite GONG SHOW act

With the passing of Chuck Barris, this bears repeating:  My favorite GONG SHOW act.  It was only seen on the east coast because they figured it out by the time it was scheduled for the west.  Note:  Panelist Jaye P. Morgan has the line of the day!

YouTube won't let me embed it so just click here.

Also, on my new podcast episode coming later tonight, I tell the story of how Chuck Barris threw me off the DATING GAME.   It's a warm touching story so gather the whole family.   And I didn't even have a Popsicle.

  2. With the death of both Chuck Berry and Barris-see how similar the last names are-I couldn't help but think of this line from Dr. Johnny Fever in "WKRP in Cincinnati": "Do you know, supposedly, that 3/4 of teenagers in America today think Chuck Berry's the host of "The Gong Show"?" 6. I did The Dating Game twice, the second time for AFTRA minimum, The Gong Show once, also for AFTRA minimum (Got gonged by Jack Youngblood, whoever he was), and shot a sequence with Chuck for The Gong Show Movie that did not end up in the final film. Also had Chuck as a guest on "Sweet Dick" Whittington's radio show back when I used to produce it, and before the show, sat around in my office with him, having an enjoyable chat. Throughout my 30s, I never knew when a Chuck Barris residual check might surprise me in the mail, but they kept coming.

I won The Dating Game the first time, way back in 1968. Went to the premiere of Isadora and the party at Universal afterwards. We got to meet Vanessa Redgrave, and for me, the highlight of the evening was standing in a buffet line, chatting with Elsa Lanchester!

  13. Supposedly the Popsicle Twins were Barris' throwaway act for when he wanted to get a different act past the censors. That allow the other act through cause at least they weren't that raunchy. Somehow one time they got approved so he said screw it and put them on the show. The secondary rumor is that they got cut from the west coast airing.

And yes, J.P. Morgan's line was killer. BTW anyone know what the hell she was famous for to get on the panel in the first place?

Just coincidentally, Jaime Farr was on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast the week before Baris died and told some fun Ging Show stories.
