Opening Night

Details Monday when I continue my series on the making of my play, A or B? but thrilled to say that the official opening last night came off extremely well.  I can exhale for the first time in two days.   Opening "days" before Opening Nights are nerve wracking as hell I've just learned.

Don't know what the reviewers will say, but there were a lot of big laughs, and the cast of Jules Willcox and Jason Dechert just crushed it.  They were thrilling to watch.

Here's a big difference between Broadway and Burbank:  On Broadway you have Sardi's nearby, the ritzy watering hole of the theater set.  Sondheim, Simon, etc.  In Burbank there's Sardo's.  It's a bar that has porn star karaoke.

Lots of people to thank.  My amazing cast and crew.  Andy Barnicle for proving I was so right not to direct this play myself.  The audience certainly.   And Garry Marshall and the incredible staff at the Falcon Theatre.

A or B? runs thru November 16, and I'll be there every night.   Come see it.  And say hello. I promise to breathe.

Garry Marshall is the best and still going strong at 80. Glad he was able to make it for your opening night. Class act.

oh, wow, we have to wait another day for more detail? Were there any bloggers there who can tell us more today?

Were any of your old friends from Cheers there for opening night?

Congratulations! I hope every night is sold out.

This should be an email not a comment but anyway... We are coming from the Bay Area to see a Craig Ferguson taping on Nov 12th. DO you think we should be able to get to your play if the taping in TV City is over by 7? I assume there are motels in Burbank where we could stay the night and fly back in the AM from Bob Hope or do you have a spare bedroom? Finally, our 20 year old son is coming with us, do you think he would be interested in A or B? Does it have any video game references?

No. You won't make it from CBS Television City to Burbank in an hour. Not at that hour.

I'll be there at the 4:00pm matinee tomorrow (Sunday)... From West Hollywood, I could make it in one hour, right? I hope to be able to say hi to you after the show!!! Cheers, Sally

Congrats, Ken! Hope you're enjoying it. Wish I could see it! Are you changing the script as you go, or are you happy with it now?

Sally, you should be able to get there in an hour. The directions via the 101 and Barham (at the top of the Cahuenga Pass) are on the Falcon's website. The theater is near Warner's studio across from Big Boy. Ken is right to warn blinky getting to Burbank in an hour from the Fairfax district is impossible in the early evening. I get around on the bus (and rail) but have lived in L.A. long enough to have a good idea of what traffic can be like. :-(
