Charlie Van Dyke has one of the most recognizable voices in America although you might not know the name. From big-time DJ at KHJ, WLS, KFRC, CKLW, WRKO, KRTH, KLIF, and more he transitioned into voice over, and I guarantee he’s the voice of one of your local TV stations and radio stations. It’s a fascinating journey. Meet “Oh, THAT guy,” Charlie Van Dyke.

Thanks, Ken, This one was for all of us born one short of three testicles.
Glad to hear Charlie's ok. He started a personal website earlier this year, and then at the end of March, the posting just stopped.
Thanks. I do miss the Top 40 AM radio of the 60's/early 70's- but I remember my Dad thought those stations were just dreadful, and his fond radio memories were of listening to big band remotes on the NBC Red and Don Lee Networks. So I guess this is what happens when you get old.
\Some of the sweetest pipes - EVER!!
Thanks for sharing and helping me remember some great days growing up with the voices on KHJ!
Remeber meting Charlie when he was 17. Yes, he did have that voice. Think he was doing a promotion for KBOX in Dallas. Nicest guy.
I found a tear in my eye after listening to this and remembering how it used to be on radio. I guess that's one of the hazards of growing old...things you love change or just go away, and you just can't find the love for what replaced them. This was a great episode that I enjoyed very much.
Delightful interview. I first heard Charlie live when he was doing mornings at CKLW in the late 60s, and his Voice has been dipping in and out of my life ever since, even over here where I am now in London (UK). Inspiring!
This is a transcript of a Pinky and the Brain cartoon that pays homage to the Honeymooner's episode that you were discussing - https://transcripts.fandom.com/wiki/Win_Big
Here’s a topical fun one....Charlie (or a spot-on imitator) voicing the intro for a 1996 Tucson newscast co-anchored by my new hero Savannah Guthrie.....
