Talk about "Dog Bites Man"...get back to me when the headline is "Man Killed to (insert funniest not death-related gerund here)"

But as someone who just watched local news cover Rod Blagojevich's final statement before lockup, this is sadly not the stupidest news coverage I've seen today.

Maybe he was quoting Mr. Geezil from the 1930's Popeye comic strip. Mr. Geezil hated Wimpy and was often quoted as saying, "He should be killed to death." One comic strip has Mr. Geezil poisoning Wimpy and calling the Mayor to proclaim, "I said I killed Wimpy - Do I get a medal? Hah! I killed him to death!" You never know when the local news Producer could be a fan of Elzie Segar's original Popeye comic strip, do ya?

Reminds me of a chapter from one of Edwin Newman's books on English usage: "A Fatal Slaying of the Very Worst Kind."

How about when the news anchors talk about a "senseless murder." They never seem to report on the sensible murders!

Are those the coroner's official opinions?

Sensible murders involve tweed.
