A quick rundown on the AMERICAN IDOL results show then a new post about Cheers.
The question everyone is asking again is how can Sanjaya not be the one going home?
Don't blame the tweeners for voting for him. I'm sure he's a big favorite among prison inmates too.
And I wonder if the numbers you call to vote are outsourced... to India perhaps????
Gwen Stefani rocks!!
How soon until someone sells those Sanjaya Road Warrior wigs and Britney Spears buys one?
I'm trying to think of which rock star wore his hair in a ridiculous mohawk... oh yeah, now I remember. Randy Jackson in Journey.
What was with Paula and the Hansel & Greta look? If the band started playing "Ooom-pah, ooom-pah, ooom-pah, ooom-pah" I bet she would have climbed on the desk and begun yodeling.
Next week is Tony Bennett and classic American standards. If Haley Scarnato is smart she'll wear that halter top even if her song is "Get Me to the Church On Time."
The best part of the results show by a thousand miles is the Ford commercials.
I'm going to miss Chris Sligh. Maybe he can show up next year on LOST as Hurley's brother.
I can't until next week when Sanjaya makes us all forget about Sinatra.

Paula's not alone. Last week Twiggy was dressed similarly on America's Next Top Model... and she was picking on someone else's clothing at the time. Apparently, it's all the rage for the middle aged to dress like they're trying to attract a big bad wolf.
"What large brain damage you have.."
Meanwhile, it looked like Gwen Stefani left her skirt at home.
I'm real sad about Chris Sligh.
Another possibility for Chris Sligh: he can star in a new sitcom with Martin Crane's dog, and they can call it FLO & EDDIE...
I can also envision Haley being cast in SHOWGIRLS II where Nomi's younger sister (Homi?...) heads to Las Vegas to pursue a singing career and realize her dream of winning a long-term engagement to take over the Celine Dionne Theatre at Caesar's; but after enduring an unceasing string of disappointments and lost opportunities, ends up becoming a backup singer for The Scintas....
Sanjaya's hair will be on display next week at the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in Hollywood.... His singing voice will be there the week after... Advance ticket purchases are encouraged... Group bookings are welcome...
After hearing Lakisha sing "Diamonds Are Forever" last week, wonder if Ryan Seacrest is still waiting for someone to come along and offer him a "Goldfinger?"...
"Get Me to the Church on Time" must be the only American standard sung with a Cockney accent. Strange, doctor.
If AI is broadcast worldwide and Sanjaya gets the Hindu vote, we're sunk. Although I must admit he'll have the inside track if they ever have a Best of the Chipmunks week.
Oh yeah, and Haley could sound like a speared cat and I'd vore for her. If I voted. I mean, isn't being a stone cold fox with minimal singing ability what it's all about these days anyway?
Ok, Sanjay is not going home because the folks over from Vote-For-The-Worst have made it their cause not to let him go. They even have a new text feature that allows people to vote for Sanjay immediately even if they aren't watching. See for yourself:
VFTW on your cell
The show is in trouble. Seeing old Curly go home just made me sad. I can hardly wait for Sinatra, lol.

There are at least 7 major metro market morning radio shows urging their listeneres to keep Sajnays in this competition, even to get him a victory. The reality is you don't have to have any talent to win the title of American Idol. If that new baby panda from Germany was a contestant, he'd be kicking Sanjaya's behind all the wat to the finals.
I'm gonna miss Chris Sligh.
As for Sanjaya, slap a pair of tits on him and he's not so bad.
I second the motion to make Sanjaya the winner, just to show precisely what a farce this show is and always has been.
Those running the show would have to anoint him as the "winner" even though they knew the joke was on them.
They'll dump his votes and toss him before they have to do that.
Meet Daniel Kublbock, the German Sanjaya, who came in 3rd on Deutscheland's Superstar several years back:

An article from UK on AI:
http://news.independent.co.uk/media/article2402821.ece
It's a baby polar bear in Germany attracting the attention; the panda bear just died, and is, thus, not available to kick Sanjaya in the behind.
I imagine votefortheworst.com actually had a hard time picking their poster child given the level of "talent" this year, and AI has no one to blame but itself for that.
Alan,
It's been so long since I've seen the episode, you may be right. I'll have to check the 6th season DVD, available at video and department stores everywhere.
Not sure where you can buy old CHEERS scripts. You can always check ebay or some websites. There are a few bookstores I believe on Hollywood Blvd that sell TV scripts.
And there was some guy on 5th Avenue near the park in NY selling scripts off a card table but his selection was rather random.
Dear Ken,
Nice blog. . .I enjoyed visiting your blog so much I wrote about you and Joel Haber (another blogger) on my blog! http://peglongscreenwriter.blog.com/
Don't tell anyone that I watch American Idol - shhhh. . .I'm trying to remain sophisticated.

Forgive me for writing this here. If there is a tab to email you directly, I don’t see it. I’m not used to blogs, blogging or blogsters (never look at them; found yours on a Google search that included some words I was using to find a photographer!) The thing that popped into my mind as I read your outstanding entertainment-TV-pop culture columns (yes, to me, they seem like fully formed columns, so I’ll call them that and not “blogs”---the one Google brought me to, which I eagerly read in full before going to the more current columns, was about the list of the 35 good-looking entertainment executives who looked like they had been chosen by the casting director of “Grey’s Anatomy”) is that obviously these are as good as any of the same sort being paid for every day/week by America’s top newspapers (check out the writer whose first name is initials at San Francisco Chronicle; he writes so well about similar daily hot-button entertainment-pop culture issues in the same type of style/humor as you and I see lots more similar paid-for fare daily by clicking among the 4500 newspapers on my Google (News) homepage.) It made me realize I am just old-school enough to not understand why you wouldn’t be writing these for pay (45-year-old female, who looks a lot younger, but has been at it writing published, paid-for columns by one of country’s top news services, in a much more polished, professional style than this blog comment (!), for the last 25 years, starting while in journalism school); in addition to two currently running syndicated columns, also have written seven (also paid-for!) books and wrote/edited for two major newspaper groups for 12 years of weekly paychecks. As far as I can see, there is no membership charge for your blog; there are no ads on the blog. Yes, I know, blah, blah, blah, blogs can be like journals, to promote thought and just for the pure joy of writing. But, no matter how much of a whiz you are (and I know, because I can knock out a brilliant, polished witty column involving focus and research in about an hour or 90 minutes), you must be devoting some kind of time and thought to these in order to have such polished results. Yes, I know there’s very little room, money, etc., for news service/syndicated columns or spots for columns in newspapers/magazines. But, with all the web slots these days (Slate, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc), they would die for good writing like this. And you obviously get a kick of seeing this type of your writing in print in order to write it just for the love of it like this and the readership you have developed. Is it possible that by calling your columns blogs that you are confusing it with the blogs of non-writers like Larry King and Rosie O’Donnell, who have been known (I don’t read them, but hear about them in other media) to give few-word entries in abbreviations about their personal, emotional state of mind that day? That’s what blogs mean to me and that’s why I don’t read them, even though I know those kids today thrive on them. (Yes, I know about the column-filled blogs of people like Ariana Huffington, but, am I wrong, she’s raking in big, big bucks for that?) Oh, and now I do know you know about the Larry King/Rosie O’Donnell variety of blog after clicking into your friend Lee Goldberg’s daily few-line-I-did-such-and-such-today blog link on your list, which I thought would be a column about your own “Writer’s Life.” I know from your bio that TV writing/directing/producing of the world’s most-praised shows (and my longtime favorites) and baseball announcing is your bread-and-butter (oh, no, please don’t tell me you did the announcing for free, too, based on your love of the game!), and maybe, because of that, you don’t know that the thousands of words you are writing in this style is better than 95 percent of the people who get paid for it and make their (often low-to-medium paying) careers at it, but, as I sit here taking a few moments away from my future column planning, I just had to blog out my feelings about it. Happyheart2222@yahoo.com if you want to say anything to me in email about it. I will also look back at this blog comment slot again in near future to see if anything there. If not, that’s fine, and forgive me if the answer is: “I’ve tried with 20,000 syndicates/newspapers/magazines and papered my walls with rejection letters (no space, no money to pay, etc., they say; which is just what the top syndicate that publishes my work would say and has said to writers for about the last money-losing decade) --- although from reading the quality of your “print” work here, I would highly doubt you have had many rejections. And forgive me more if this blog is actually a reprint of a column that is running for pay elsewhere (although blog/bio seems to make no mention of that) ---HH in San Fernando Valley
Happy Heart,
Thanks for the kind words. You flatter me. I started this blog as sort of stretching exercises for a writer. I must say it has taken on a life of its own. Believe me, I will not turn down money to write columns. In fact, I have done a few freelance things. And one of the reasons for the blog is to attract an editor who might want to publish my travelogues. If economic opportunities present themselves as a result of the popularity of this blog I will certainly entertain them. But I love the freedom to write whatever I want, whenever I want, and not have to get approval from feature editors or be told there are certain topics I'm not allowed to discuss because their paper has some association with them.
For the record, I have never applied to a paper or syndicate although I do have plenty of rejection letters from other ventures. But I'm always willing to consider opportunities.
In the meantime, I shall continue to maintain my blog watch.
Thanks again.
Ken
"I second the motion to make Sanjaya the winner, just to show precisely what a farce this show is and always has been."
How is American Idol a farce? If the music isn't to your liking then don't watch it. The premise of the show is finding pop stars. Everyone one who has won on Idol is at least as talented as Brittney Spears, and several have been far better.
Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia and Carrie Underwood all have excellent voices. If you heard them on any other stage than Idol you wouldn't think twice about accepting them as talented singers.
Stop being such a snob. If you don't like the show don't watch it. I'm tired of people ripping the show as if everything else on television is so great. There's a handful of quality network shows on right now, the rest are crap bordering on insulting. At least Idol is well done and is something a family can watch without having to worrying about explaining the story line to their kids.
Yeah Ken! Don't talk about American Idol that way! It brings families together through Gwen Stefani's absent skirt and Haley Scarnato's bouncing beauties; something for the sons to love and the daughters to aspire to. ;)
I apologize, Ken. I'd forgotten it wasn't you who made that comment. To Anonymous3604384765, I give full credit.
I also forgot about the homophobic back-and-forth between Ryan and Simon that really must have had families laughing together at what each called the other. ;)
i still dont understand how Sanjaya got selected in the first place.his voice has never been upto par.he s not even in the other contestants' league!just in his own private little boys universe.I think since they let him come in to play with the big boys, theyre going to have to suffer
Sanjaya's real purpose on the show is to give everyone a bathroom break. He'll probably take it down to the top five.
But there ain't NO way that anyone but Melinda Doolittle can win.
Personally, I think Michael Jackson and Sanjaya would make the new perfect Hollywood couple.
I have great new to share with you. Melinda Doolittle will released her first album in fall and she working on Holiday's Cd. come join us to support Melinda's career www.mdstreetteam.com We love to spread the love of Melinda
