Weekend Post

Someone asked me recently what my favorite music video was? It took me a nano second to answer. The Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk" mash-up of Hollywood movies.  There are 100 dance films, 280 edits, and none of cuts were sped up or slowed down.  The author on YouTube is listed as Nerd Fest UK.   You may have seen it.  It's been around.  But I could watch it a hundred times.

Don't be surprised if you don't replay it at least twice.

Enjoy.

I hope it is good. I liked 'Just Go With It'.

I'd watch except that I loathe that song with a thermonuclear passion, which wasn't helped by the fact you couldn't escape it when it was first released. Bruno Mars has one of the most annoying voices in music.

I watched it thrice. That was astounding... now I have a new favorite video. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think I have watched it a hundred times. Greatest editing ever to a fantastic song.

Sheer genius. Lovingly and knowledgeably applied.

When I first came upon this video, I wondered when they would insert the couch scene from Singin' In The Rain. What a surpassingly joyous moment as they built to the final tumble!

Ending with Astaire/Kelly recreating the handshake was tops.

Some one have a list of what movies were referenced. I do recognize some of them.

A great bit of editing.

But check this out. Only one edit, that probably wasn't event necessary.

Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell

Good editing!

Seeing Mickey Rooney, I am reminded of the new story about his secret life.

Another legend bites the dust.

John Parrish - Eleanor Powell dancing in cruise control, Fred would have been left behind if she had stepped it up a gear.

$1.2 billion worldwide opening weekend for Avengers Endgame. In a matter of weeks, it'll beat Avatar to become the biggest film of all time. And that can only mean one thing. James Cameron will come out and bash it.

He seems to be a bit thin skinned when it comes to films either beating his box office records or portraying tough females, like when he bashed Wonder Woman for being sexy because he feels female heroes should only ever be angst ridden and masculine, like Sarah Connor in Cameron's Terminator, or Ellen Ripley in...Cameron's Aliens. So, expect a vicious takedown of Avengers within days of it dethroning Avatar.

I haven't seen it yet. I'm waiting for the opening week crowds to dissipate before I check out an afternoon screening. Given how feral modern audiences are, no way was I going to subject myself to three hours of morons talking, texting and whooping during opening weekend.

If you want to know the movies featured, just click on the Subtitles icon on the bottom right of the screen.

I’ve seen that video a thousand times! It will always be my favorite. You surprise me though, Ken. Even after reading your blog for 7 or 8 years, you still surprise me. I would never have guessed this to be your favorite.

Even better:the video for "I Just Wanna F*ckin Dance". :)

Such a great video. Have you seen any of DJ Cummerbund videos on YouTube where he mashes up two (or more) different songs? Some of those are quite entertaining.

I love the entire video, and I'll always have a soft spot for Fred Astaire. But the Nicholas Brothers are just from a different planet. How are splits like that even possible?

Delightful! In a related vein, may I suggest Fred Astaire in Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q4H8kzekuY
