The Irishman was the closing night film of the London Film Festival. That screening was only for industry people and the stars, but luckily selected cinemas around the UK also screened it so that members of the public could see it at the same time.

This obviously isn't the place for a full review. I'll just say it's a staggering work of cinema that must be experienced on the big screen. It's 3 and a half hours but it doesn't feel like it. If there's justice, it'll sweep the board at the Oscars next year, especially Scorsese, DeNiro, Pesci and screenwriter Steven Zaillian. If Steven Zaillian at least doesn't win best adapted screenplay, it'll be a joke. He's written a remarkable script that features over 100 characters, spans 6 decades and is never boring. What surprised me is how laugh out loud funny it was at times.

The themes encompass mortality, family, male bonding, loyalty, political corruption (rather timely), pride, ego and loss.

See it, see it, see it!

A similar partnership well worth mentioning from 1981 is John Denver and Placido Domingo singing "Perhaps Love." Being a passionate fan of Denver, I had to call attention to this beautiful rendition even if people might not choose to check it out due to Domingo's #MeToo situation.

Unfortunately, he knows zilch about picking a good tattoo artist.

Lovely. If anyone missed Bocelli's duet with his son Matteo last year, enjoy it now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChcR2gKt5WM
