Rush Limbaugh is (or now was) really Jim Morrison

This is a repost from June 1, 2017.  In light of Rush Limbaugh's passing (at least he lived long enough to see Biden inaugurated), I've gotten a number of hits on this post.  And I thought you'd find it amusing.  There was a claim in 2017 that Jim Morrison didn't die.  He reinvented himself and Rush Limbaugh was in fact the Lizard King.  That prompted this essay:

Yes, this absurd conspiracy is indeed going around the internet.  Instead of trying to prove that our US president is guilty of obstruction of justice and helped Russia subvert the national election, people are instead insisting that Doors' front man, Jim Morrison, faked his own death in 1971 and resurfaced as right wing talk show host, Rush Limbaugh.

I'm not kidding.

No.  Seriously.

You can look it up.

Okay, forget that Limbaugh was born in 1951 and Morrison was born in 1943, for this to happen, Morrison would have begun his new life as a top 40 disc jockey in a Pittsburgh suburb.   Later, as all rock stars aspire to do, he worked in the promotions department of the Kansas City Royals.   Later, of course, using a completely different voice he became the radical talk show host he is today.

What psychedelic drug turns you into a Reagan conservative?

What makes this conspiracy so much fun is that there are nimrods out there who actually believe it.   There are some bizarre YouTube videos claiming to PROVE this theory.  And of course they're all Mad Hatter Productions.  But I'm sorry, unless they can show a bill of sale to Rush Limbaugh for size 50 leather pants I ain't buyin' it.

Now if you want to claim that Donald Trump is really Captain Beefheart, then hey, I'm listenin'.

"Yeah, sure...Eddie swam to shore--Jim Morrison met him there, and then Amelia Earhart flew them to Paris, where they're all living in sin"

What an insult to Captain Beefhart! ;)

That conspiracy is small fry compared to what we have now.

I occasionally visit a website that keeps track of conversations between Qanon fanatics on various platforms. At first, their beliefs were amusing, but now they're just depressing.

Just a couple of examples. They believe President Biden was arrested and executed and replaced with a body double who is leading a phony government that will make way on March 4th for the "real" inauguration of their guy. Then in the summer, the government will unveil medbeds, which are based on alien technology and can cure cancer in 5 minutes. They were confused, however, by the death of Limbaugh. Their chats were littered with questions as to why he wasn't given the medbed cure to save him.

This level of detachment from reality is incredibly sad and pitiful. I'd feel sorry for them, except their conversations are also replete with references to the "Demonrats" and their eagerness to see them killed. Must be that compassionate conservatism we've heard about.

Let's not forget Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who believes California wildfires were caused by a Jewish space laser and that the Parkland school shooting was fake and no one died.

I read about the Morrison/Limbaugh "conspiracy" on a gossip site that insists that Elvis Presley also faked his death and is now living the quiet life in Wales. I bet that he loves watching "Married With Children" in Welsh.

I'm with ELS.
What have you got against the good Captain?

If you want to convince me that trump is Honey Boo-Boo's father - THEN we can talk.

Friday question: When you direct an episode on a show you haven't worked on before, does the showrunner first give you a heads-up on any unusual on-set dynamics such as 2 co-stars who don't get along or an actor who is overly sensitive to feedback?

Somebody told me that however much I hated his politics, I had to appreciate Limbaugh's broadcasting ability. When he first got big, his being able to talk (often off the cuff) for so many straight hours five days a week was apparently a big deal. Howard Stern was gifted at it too, and here in Chicago, we had Steve Dahl. Maybe that's less impressive now in days of podcasting, streaming, and youtube navel-gazing.

Upon hearing of the passing of Rush I thought of a paraphrase from "Its a Wonderful Life": Hear that bell? It's a demon getting his wings.

Rush Limbaugh was really Jim Morrison? How absurd! Especially when it's obvious he was really Andy Kaufman.

Ken, as a Superman fan, will you be reviewing Superman & Lois?

Judging by the Hollywood Reporter review, it's a boring melodrama. At least it can't be as bad as Zack Snyder's take on the character.

Well you have to admit, if Morrison had reinvented himself, Limbaugh would have been a really good cover identity. But they are both really dead now, right?

I don’t mind thinking that elvis is still out there somewhere. Glad he made enough working the local 7-11 to travel. Wales is as safe as it gets.

Do you know about the British conspiracy theorist David Icke? He has an elaborate theory about reptilians which somehow doesn't cover Jim Morrison but includes the royal family, the Rothschilds and the Bush family. At least one respected writer, Alice Walker, says she finds his views "interesting." He's a former sportscaster, too.

Rush was so fat, his grave will be wide enough so that we can all dance on it and still remain Socially Distanced.

(Hey! A huge part of his act was trash talking and speaking ill of the dead. What's good for the goose is good for the Limbaugh.)

There's even a random conspiracy about John Denver being a sniper in Vietnam. Sigh.

Thanks Ken for the RL post. I was not a fan..at least in the last 15 years or so but am sad to see so much glee over his death. Maybe I'm of the mindset that in order for hope, peace and love to thrive, one must do better, be better than your enemies. All the trash talk may be deserved but it doesn't elevate anyone. So, I thank you Ken for taking a different path.

I did have a Friday Question. What are your thoughts on Disney Plus (or any streaming service) putting an "offensive content" label on The Muppets or any retro comedy?

There sure are an awful lot of nutjobs around. Does this mean if I play my DOORS albums backwards I hear hate speech coming out of the speakers?

Let's not forget the theory that Bill Hicks is really Alex Jones. There are some notable coincidences there. Biggest one is after Hicks died, his best friend became good friends with Jones. Plus, is it really possible that Jones was born in 1974? He looks 60. Not endorsing this theory, but they can be fun rabbit holes if you don't take them seriously.

I visited Morrison's grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery. I would have peed on it had I known it was Limbaugh.
