EP189: Writer Bill Persky Part Two

Bill Persky and partner Sam Denoff wrote 29 episodes of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and eventually became its showrunners.  More fascinating stories including a great one involving Orson Welles.

My idea of Heaven - in which I get to be God, only better looking -
would include weekly Levine Persky podcast conversations.
This week’s Orson Welles Man Who Came To Dinner stories were great,
and what a cast !
Orson Welles, Lee Remick, Joan Collins,
Don Knotts, Edward Andrews, Marty Feldman, Michael Gough,
Peter Haskell, Anita Sharp-Bolster, Elisabeth Welch,
and Mary Wickes (from the Broadway + film original)
repeating as Nurse Preen

Thanks. I remember coming across magazine articles that would feature a picture of Orson Welles, or Sid Caesar, or even Arthur Godfrey with a headline underneath demanding "Why isn't this man working?". Sounds like in all three cases a truthful answer would have been "Because he's a royal pain to work with".

You should invite Bill Persky back as often as possible. What a fascinating raconteur!
