The greatest prediction EVER!!

Even if you're not a baseball fan you've got to see this. It's maybe the most amazing prediction in the history of sports. And this is real. It's not a hoax.

That was eerie!

Before last night, I predicted that Chad Billingsley would pitch well for 4 innings then, just when you believe he's turned the corner, would completely implode in a rash of walks and homeruns until he makes you want to punch the TV.

You can never go wrong with that prediction. I've been right for five weeks straight now.

Oh, I also predict that he'll have that hangdog, mopey expression plastered on his face until the next start, when . . . oh, well, you know the rest.

Also, my "Indians will stink up the joint" prediction comes through will incredible regularity.

OMG!!

Babe's pointing to the center field stands October 1, 1932 (77 years ago tomorrow) has been eclipsed!

Magnificent report by the MSNBC anchor, too. She loved it.

Here's the call of the whole AB. It's worth it.

I predicted Indians manager Eric Wedge would be fired one day......and voila!...today was the day! How psychic can one be!

I'm just thrilled that someone is watching MSNBC!

Not a baseball fan, but that was very cool. I guess when you've been around the game for so long, you get a unique insight into the game.

Then again, does this guy make exact predictions like that every game and that was the only one that came true?

How cool -- Would've been great if you'd been in the announcer's box. What would you have done? But I guess it's almost impossible to out do Hall of Famer Dave Niehaus.

I predict the Phillies will play the Astros tonight, but only one team will win. And I also predict that I will not sleep with Natalie Portman tonight.

She didn't notice that it wasn't the upper deck?

What impressed me is that excited as he was, Niehaus still updated his viewers on the score of the game in the course of the call. As a radio listener, I'm a big fan of the egg timer Red Barber had in the booth so he would give the score of the game at least every three minutes. Even a virtually meaningless late-season game -- it's still a baseball game, dammit, and their keeping score.

Did this man blackout for two minutes and seventeen seconds recently?

Anon beat me to it: The kid missed the second deck... albeit not by much.

Still, does Mr. Blowers pick stocks?

WV: bekleso -- one of the stocks Mr. Blowers should not pick.

Hey Ken,

When does Mr. Blowers think the Dodgers will win their Division? I'm a little worried about his silence on this topic.

I know that Ken worked with Dave Niehaus and was a big advocate of him getting the honor from the Hall of Fame that he finally and deservedly got. What Dave MB said was true: he was able to make the call, keep his focus, and still talk about the prediction. Incredible.

Legendary early TV story. ABC's top football crew was Curt Gowdy and Paul Christman. They did the Gotham Bowl, which may have lasted one year. ABC planned to edit the broadcast to 90 minutes for Wide World of Sports, but the field was a mess and the game badly played, so it ran long and Gowdy and Christman had to do the opening live when the game ended. So, when Gowdy asked Christman what he expected, Christman looked down at the stat sheet and proceeded to "predict" everything that happened. Gowdy nearly lost it. Viewers were shocked to see it all come true.

Rachel would make a better SportsCenter anchor than Keith nowadays anyway.

(My friend who's a Mets fan and I had a similar incident way back in 1974 when we were ushering for the Mets and Yankees as summer jobs, in the first year the Yanks shared Shea while the Stadium was being rebuilt. The Yanks were chasing Baltimore in the AL East race, but Bobby Murcer was having an awful year at Shea -- one home run at home during the first five months of the season. Which led to a debate over whether Murcer sucked, and to my friend saying just before his next at-bat "If he hits a home run, I'll be a Yankees fan for life." Of course about a minute later the ball was sailing over the right field fence, though the second half of the deal was never lived up to.)

He said the same thing on Glenn Beck, too.

Thank you for posting this clip, Ken. It's now in my favorite Mariner moments file and will make me laugh and cheer every time I listen to it. I read later that Mike Blowers does make these predictions frequently when he's with friends just for the fun of it. They don't always come true, but occasionally do. He's one of my favorite broadcasters from the pre and post game shows. His knowledge of the game and his articulate manner when discussing baseball make him very enjoyable to listen to. And clearly he has a very good sense of humor.

Mike has been a great addition to the broadcast team since he came on. Of course, Ken, you'd be welcome back with open arms for the pre and post game shows as well.

The interplay between Dave and Rick on that is just fantastic. I'm not the world's biggest Rick Rizzs fan, but his hysterical laughter over Dave's call is classic.

Is this not the most amazing baseball prediction you've ever seen? Did you talk to Blowers and Neihaus about this? I didn't see the game so I heard it first from Rachel. Besides her political brilliance she's a good baseball geek, I'm so glad she picked this up. I often think that up here in Seattle people forget that we exist and I'm delighted to see our stuff hit the national news! (And a late Happy New Year to you Ken!)

I don't know why this is, but Rachel Maddow's voice irritates the crap outta me.

How To Make A 1,000,000-to-1 Prediction:

1. Make a lot of predictions; in fact, over the years, make a million predictions.

2. By the laws of probability, one of them will eventually be correct.

BTW, this worked for a lot of those Nostradamus types, too.
