"So how do you tend to break stories on Family Guy?"
"Sorry, how do we what?"
"I guess I'm asking: what's it like in the writers' room?"
"It's the most pleasant fifteen to twenty minutes of everybody's week"
The Enterprise episode Goodman is infamous for is season 2's Precious Cargo. Truth be told, I don't think any of the writers on staff could have made that episode work. The story concept was flawed from the get-go, a poor attempt at redoing Elaan of Troyius, which was already a lousy episode back in the Original Series in 1968, and a poor attempt at doing Taming of the Shrew in space. And I understand the idea came from Berman and Braga.
And for what it's worth, Goodman also wrote one of the best episodes of that show: season 3's The Forgotten, a well written character piece which addresses the human losses and casualties of the Xindi attack, and puts the character of Trip through a major emotional breakdown, plus T'Pol's increasing erratic state. Easily one of the better hours in all of the Trek franchise, and a highlight of a superb third season on Enterprise.
I finally got around to this episode of your podcast. David seems like an interesting guy with his own lovely history in the business.
Looking forward to hearing part 2.
I am amazed how nice you were to David about Seth.
From reading your blog I figured you didn't like his work very much at all.
Were you just being "Hollywood" nice to your guest?
