What NOT to do...

,,,when performing improvisational comedy.

This is a hilarious bit from Ricky Gervais' LIFE'S TOO SHORT series. Liam Neeson breaks every rule of improv. But does it wonderfully.  And with conviction.

Hilarious and thanks for giving me a new Youtube favorite, though it does have the scent of a FAMILY GUY cutaway.

Hey Ken. I don't know if you ended up seeing Deadpool. When it was released, I commented that you should check it out, especially as the opening credits are hilarious ("produced by asshats" etc) and that you'd cheer when you see the "written by" credit. If you haven't seen it, here's the opening credits on youtube to hopefully convince you to watch it!

It's a nice example of how crucial context is. His manner is exactly the same as in his serious roles, but in this situation it comes across as utterly ludicrous.

Liam's absolutely correct. He's a funny guy! And as a bonus: A great list maker.

Reminds me of Leslie Nielsen's comedy characters... :)

At most, I'm an episodic Gervais fan. So with that as a benchmark - This here is great. Thanks, Ken.

What would be awesome was if Liam was improvising that.

In this vein, I just signed up for an event, "Improv for Writers: How the Rules and Games of Improv Comedy Help Writers Write," at 1 p.m. June 18 at CBS Studio City (4024 Radford Ave., the one-time Mack Sennett/Republic lot for my fellow film historians). It's sponsored by the Scriptwriters Network.

I've seen that before but I still took the time to watch. It always leaves me in tears. Everyone and everything is pitch perfect. Thanks!
