Why I love Paul McCartney

POSSIBLE FRIDAY QUESTION: I was just a kid when it was on, so my memories of it are very vague, but what connection did the team behind "M*A*S*H" (which may have included you--I'm not sure when you left the series) have with the series "Trapper John, M.D."? It seems like such an odd spinoff: set 30 years later, with none of the original cast, and an hour-long drama instead of a sitcom. Was there ever any coordination between the two production teams? Was there ever a consideration to have a "M*A*S*H" storyline that would (somehow) payoff on the "Trapper John" show 30 years later?

Ah, Paul McCartney! I wonder if he now sings "When I'm 64" in the past tense.

Who doesn't love Paul? Although John was my #1 Beatle. Off topic, but Hill Street Blues is currently running on Decades TV all weekend. Good show. What ever happened to the creator Steven Bochco? Janice B.

Paul's is a singular boast that only he and a few other rock stars could use, and good on him for doing so.

Must be interesting to have Grandpa stop by the school for Career Day.

He's done alright for a fellow who by all accounts has never learned to read music.

I once ran into a guy who played in a pick-up band at a pub down the road from Paul's house in England, and Paul would occasionally pop in and play with them. He confirmed the fact that Paul had no use for sheet music, but said that if Paul heard a tune once he knew it cold. Months later he could recall the name of the tune and play it flawlessly on any instrument you handed him.

Tagging on to Charles H. Bryan's comment, McCartney tells the story of when his daughters were dating and being the old fashioned Liverpool guy, he made them have the poor date ring the bell and pass inspection with McCartney. If you're the potential suitor, imagine THAT. McCartney said one boy said he was in a band. McCartney's response- "Oh realllllly??? How's yer band then? Pretty good? Pretty good compared to what?"

Friday Question,

How would you have written the Jenny Craig commercial?

I think a dinner with Paul McCartney would be uplifting. A dinner with John Lennon, you would come away not feeling well about yourself.

Well Mike Barer, being dead and all, Lennon likely wouldn't be all that fun and energetic.

My son met Paul McCartney when my son's band was playing Stephen's Talkhouse on Long Island. He said Paul was nice as could be, but firmly requested no photos be taken of him.

It's moments like this when I don't mind my old codger 'get off my lawn' status. I love knowing that I was around when music history was being made, when the songs were done first and in most cases best - although I don't like the part where my music has now become oldies.
