Two GREAT quotes!

From Christopher Lloyd, co-creator of MODERN FAMILY. This comes from a current article about the show in ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. If I can read between the lines, I think he's happier at ABC than he was with his previous network.

"Getting notes on creativity from Fox is like getting notes on fashion from the Braille Institute."

And from Jewish Punk Rocker Patrick A. or "Aleph", the 26-year-old founder of Punk Torah, an outreach effort to inspire Jewish spirituality:

"When I'm on stage screaming, hitting my face with a microphone and pouring beer on my head, at least I'm singing about the Torah."

Don't know if you heard about it, Ken, but veteran sitcom director Linda Day Varnum passed away at age 71 (leukemia and breast cancer). She's probably best known for directing "Married...With Children," directing more than 30 of that great farce's episodes (including the pilot). She also worked on "Archie Bunker's Place," "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Who's The Boss."

From the obit, I learned this charming tidbit: In 2002, she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, and they were married.

I'm really enjoying Modern Family, although I have one complaint. The `Cool' dad, Phil. While he's sometimes funny, I'm finding it harder and harder to not find his character a little annoying. I also keep wondering what exactly it is that Claire sees in him. He's too much of a caricature, unlike the others on the show.

Otherwise, it's one of the few shows I'm watching on television, which has to say something.

Oh, and Emily, wrong Christopher Lloyd.

Really? It's not the same guy? I always figured it was. I mean, who would think that two different guys with the same name would excel in the same field?

Actually Christopher Lloyd was there first, in a way. His father was David Lloyd, who wrote for The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Cheers, Wins, Frasier and any series that was any good from Paramount. The only clinker he ever wrote was a pilot for a series about the Moskou press office. And he wrote for Taxi, where I am sure Christopher Lloyd got a lot of werd looks when he said his name. I don't know if his son was born before or after Taxi, but David must not have thought he would grow up to become a writer. Imagine, to be such a good writer when your father is the funniest there ever was!

Tim, Phil is great! He's supposed to be annoying!

If the writer Christopher Lloyd was born after the actor Christopher Lloyd became well known, perhaps his name was meant as a tribute.

Which reminds me, Albert Brooks came into this world as Albert Einstein

I'm sorry to hear that news also. Linda directed episodes of several shows I worked on, including MAD ABOUT YOU, THE SINGLE GUY and THE PARENTHOOD (the Robert Townsend show). She always seemed to be the happiest person on the set, and had a great sense of humor herself. On one of the shows (I don't recall which, unfortunately), the audience warm-up told the audience members to raise their hands if they'd never been to a sitcom before. Linda. who happened to be on set near the audience bleachers raised her hand in response, which drew a good laugh from the audience.

Again, sorry to hear of her passing.
