Sad to report that my father, Cliff Levine passed away Friday night. He was 89, almost 90. He was a remarkable man who leaves behind cherished memories, many terrific accomplishments, and three generations of family that love him and will be forever grateful that he was in our lives.
Very sorry to read of your Father's passing, Ken. You were fortunate to have him in your life for such a long time, which may not be much consolation to you right now, but hopefully will be going forward. My sincere condolences.
Please accept my condolences as a member of your extended blogosphere family. Losing a father, especially a great one, leaves a void that can be coped with but never filled. Stay strong.
I'm sorry for your loss, Ken. He must have been so proud of you, in the same way you are proud of your children. It seems as if you are part of a remarkably cohesive family. I hope the good memories help you through the grief.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your father, clearly a man of such influence and inspiration in your life. May you find comfort in the cherished memories of your times together.
So sorry to hear this. It was obvious from things you wrote how big an influence he had on you. May you and your family find some comfort in remembering what sounds like a life well-lived.
sorry to hear it Ken. We'll keep an eye out for the the Maitre' Di ( however you spell it) at Annies on Almost Perfect. my sincere condolences to you and your family
This was offered to me at a difficult time. It was memorable. I pass it along with sincere condolences.
And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.”
I recall many times when you referring to your dad as "my hero". What a loving tribute to a man who exuded love just by looking at his pictures on your site. Never met him, but since I know you, I feel I know your dad. And that beautiful picture of your dad, you, your son and his son truly says it all. God Bless Cliff and the entire Levine family.
Greatest sympathy to you and your kith and kin. May his memory be for a blessing, and may the sad and painful memories pass quickly, to leave the wonderful and warm memories that I know you have.
What a beautiful picture. I lost my dad last year and still really miss him. All my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May his memory forever be a blessing!
Long time reader, first time commenter. Very sorry for your loss. You've brought a lot of laughs to my life since the later years of MASH (when I was old enough to start understanding the jokes) and especially Cheers, and I wish you many warm thoughts and condolences in return.
Only a son (or daughter) knows if his father was a hero. That you considered your father a hero tells the world everything they need to know about him. So sorry for the loss of your father, your hero.
So sorry for the loss of your Dad. It was evident, however, that you were wise enough to appreciate and enjoy the time you did have together. Again, condolences.
Ken, when a relatively healthy parent lives to that age (my mom was 94), you think they'll be around forever. While I never took that for granted, I didn't realize how emotionally unprepared I was to lose her when the time came. My heart goes out to you and your family. With deepest sympathy - Patricia
I had this friend since kindergarten, and I went to her mother's funeral. Someone said, "Well, you had 94 years with her." And my friend said, "But I wanted 95!" Condolences.
Ken, I know that we are only acquainted through PPB and mutual colleagues in the industry, but please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss regardless. No age is "too soon" for a parent to pass away.
Very sorry to learn of the passing of your father. From your blog and your books, it's clear what an important part of your life he was. My condolences.
You are now part of a fraternity that none of us would prefer to be in, yet life puts us in this group, regardless of what our preferences would be. This is all of us. Joining this group, we now have the knowledge of what our own fathers and their fathers went through. They have taught us well, and we will continue to forward the life lessons and love our fathers have taught us, through their words and deeds, to our family and friends.
Your father will continue to smile down on you, and continue to encourage and look after you, through all your future endeavors, just as he did in this physical sphere.
My Dad also made it to 89. I would like to say that great minds think alike.
So sorry to read of the loss of your father. If there are any charitable causes your father felt strongly about I'm sure more than a few of us would like to make a contribution in his memory.
I just was able to check in this morning and saw this post. I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I lost both of my parents (both in their mid to upper 80s with many, many health issues within 5 moths of each other in 2013) and even though you expect it, it isn't easy.
